COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is inspired by the long and hot summer days in the San Joaquin Valley—the fertile basin that yields much of California’s bountiful produce. This tart blond ale was brewed with Rainier and Bing cherries from Bella Viva Orchards and fermented with our house sour culture and aged for many months in used wine barrels to create a tart, cherry-kissed wild ale.

12 oz bottle from Whole Foods Campbell. Probably 2-3 yrs old. Light amber color...maybe a light hue of pink. Nice sour aroma. Acetic profile is low. Medium carbonation. Medium sourness. Some nice light cherry flavor. Better as some of carbonation dissipates.

Clear and slightly hazy golden coloured body with a faint, very fast-dying white head. Aroma of super sour and tart elements - ranging from yeast and gueuze notes to cherries, funk and earth, along with some lighter alcohol and citrus scents. Very light-bodied; Strong sour and funky qualities throughout with a nice cherry flavour at first with a subdued, but noticeable grassy and herbal taste and showing some dry spices like coriander seed, but a sour almost fruity kick near the end works out well. Aftertaste shows the sour apple, cherry and lemon flavours abound with a great funky dry yeast and grain flavour and a super easy-to-drink body with a mouth watering sour note. Overall, a great beer for the style that shows well and has some good legs, while remaining dry and easy-to-drink. I sampled this 37,5 cL split bottle purchased from Murray’s Cheese in New York (Greenwich Village), New York on 09-November-2014 for US$13,99 sampled a bit over two years later on 24-November-2016.

[2/1/16] Draught at City Beer in San Francisco. Murky reddish orange. Aroma of cherries, marzipan, wine, oak, a bit of vinegar. Sour flavor, lemony, with cherries, oak, and a vinous touch in a puckering finish. Medium-bodied. Very good.

2014 version on tap at City Beer. Orange-cherry-red-pink, cloudy, with a low, fine head. Nose of grains, crackers, cherry, grapefruit. Interesting flavor: cherry, whole wheat crackers, yogurt, grass. Good. Quite sour yet complex.

Keg @ City Beer. Light hazy pinkish pour with a small white head. Aroma is pretty straight forward. Tart, funky cherry skin. Buggy barrel. Light biscuit. Similar flavor. Sweet/tart with a sharp, but not overbearing, acetic finish. Dry. Light and easy to drink.

Sampled at the Galaxy thanks to Dirty Johnny from Jackie O’s. Pours a light yellow with haze and small head. Lacto nose with lemon, vinegar, and cherries. Taste was lemon, cherries, lacto tartness, mild funk and vinegar. Very tart finish. Light body and medium carb. Overall it was good.

Pour out of 375 mL bottle, hazy orange-red pour with thin slightly off white head, aroma brought cherry, medicine, acetone, burning acid, lemon, hints of oak, slight white wine as well. Taste was a mix of lemon, oak, tart berry, some slight funky notes into a bit of wine, some slight acetic but not nearly as much as the aroma, some cherry, slight plastic notes, finishing fairly tart. I really wanted to like this, and as an Almanac fan, this was pretty disappointing.

Draft at SB. Not sure this qualifies as a blond; might be another cerise. Pours a very hazy dark ruby with lighter edges. Dense and creamy tannish pink head that sticks around. Bright sharp tangy nose—lots of pie cherries, with some minimal snack-cherry sweetness and some soft balsamic in the background. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Sharp, bracing tartness from the attack through the finish, but not an out-of-control vinegar note. Pie cherry tartness along with some balsamic and sweeter lemony notes, stays tart and slightly sweet throughout. Snack-cherry notes pop up in the middle. Long tart tangy finish, mouth-watering but doesn’t give you pucker face or make your eyebrows knot up. Very solid and drinkable.

Pours a pinkish Amber with no head. Aroma of funk, white vinegar, wine and a hint of cherries. Taste is sour cherries, oak, funk and vinous notes. Solid sour with a hit of fruit.
