COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This blended sour ale is brewed with aromatic Mosaic hops and fermented warm with Brettanomyces yeasts, then soured in wine barrels. Right before bottling, it’s dry hopped with Nelson hops to create an aromatic yet sour ale that embraces both our love of farmhouse funk and tropical hop aromas of passionfruit and mango. Devil’s Advocate is a delicious contradiction of both flavor and style.

Bottle from a trade and shared with westmeister. Fruity, hoppy and a decent bit tart. Tropical pineapple and mango fruit. Little bit of green grape. Well rounded and entertaining with the tart and the fruit coming together nicely.

375ml bottle acquired via trade on BA. Thanks, bro. Pre-Mad Men finale beers. Pours a gentle hazed glowing amber orange hue, a bit fiery, dulled, summer bonfire glow with cascading bubbles, creamy white cakey head atop is sizable, lingers firmly and laces well enough. Aromas are dusty brett, dry straw and lactic punch. A bit acidic, white wine, lemon and yogurty lactic twang. Touches of melon, crab apple and subtle fruity ester, mellow tannic oak and funky dry brett. Initial is lighter end of the fold, some firmer lactic acidity up front with lemon, crab apple and yogurt. Punchy citrus, some tannic red wine, subtle tangerine, faint pear, dry dusty straw and bready malts. Earthy bitter hops, kiwi and some guava jabs, juicy tart pineapple. Gentle white wine, grape and growing sour jabs. Some cobwebs, honeysuckle and more white grape, sweet and sour play in and out. Some dryness, lactic, subtle white wine and funk taper out. Decent oak, a bit of nice fruit play here with a sourness that hits but tapers off enough to not be a true focus overall. A bit bitter, the hop elements add some nice flavor and bitterness, citrus and pithy rind, lemon and grapefruit with subtle tropical tart jabs of pineapple. Barrel is pleasant, a bit tannic, fruity, and winey with a gentle kick of vanillin, yogurt and lingering tart fruit. This is nice, it flows nicely in my opinion. The hop element adds some nice feel on the nose and backend. The pineapple, tart feel and slick lactic and barrel play with funk compliment are on point but at the same time I wouldn’t say this wows me. Perfectly enjoyable, good flow and palate play.. But missing something to make it truely stand point. All that said it’s a lot better than what most people are putting out these days.

Slightly cloudy orange yellow. Nose of floral hops and light tropical fruit, with some sweatiness either from hops or brett. Slightly tannic barrel quality, chewy. Some minerality, but mostly just brett driven tropical fruits, tart with some stone fruit, and light yogurt. Very good.

Always like an almanac showing up .. . Hops feel fresh .. Mouth is spritzy for an almanac, medium finish .. . Nice brett presence, the dry hopping is appreciated .. . . A staggering 57% of American workers believe there is a very real chance they will be unemployed in the next 5 to 7 years. But what does that matter to a bloated millionaire fat-cat like you?
