Very nice sour saison. Good saison foundation, but would like a bit more spice to come through. The sourness has a nice profile: puckeringly tart at first, and then fading to a nice fruitiness. Low carbonation. Overall, a nice California take on this style!

3/15/13 notes: Almanac Farm to Barrel Farmer’s Reserve: Nose is beautiful brett, cherry, mulberry, really clean acidity, elegant clear orange with a white head. Flavor is lemon, bretty must, orange peel, back end vanilla and black cherry. Touch of apple cider vinegar in finish, dry. This is a winner, beyond the maturity of most American sours. Quite plummy in the nose, reminds me of my childhood summers when my grandmother would bring home fresh plums from the flea market. Lightly tart, with a definitely plum-dominant flavor, though hints of grape do linger. Not particularly musty/farmhouse, but a very good American fruit sour.

Bottle pour split with Andrew, big thanks for sharing, here’s to a new season, light peach color pour, aroma is full of fresh fruit and some sour funk, decent amount of carb, still has held up so well. Been holding on to this one for a while! Pours a beautiful auburn color with a chunky, 2 finger, off white head. Funky oak, raspberry, strawberry on the nose. Raspberry up front quickly followed by a wave of tartness that is very dry and crisp on the end. Medium bodied and effervescent. Worth the wait! Bottle through trade, pour looks like a cloudy apricot/marmalade with light traces of white head. Aroma of grapes, plum, mild yeast funk and some oak. Taste of grapes, big bold tannins, little bit of a yeasty funk in the finish, pretty mild on the tartness. Bottle from Plumpjack. I’ve been out of town for awhile, and in that time, it seems that Damian and Jesse have transformed into Vinnie Cilurzo. This is crazy good! The appearance is excellent - deep but hazy orange-copper with a lasting off-white head, very good retention and lacing. Excellent funky grape aroma with slight oaky notes. The flavor has oaky white wine, barnyard, muscat, and medium-plus tartness. Nice crisp and acidic mouthfeel with average carbonation. Really good and really drinkable at 7.8%.
