Pluots are some of our favorite fruits. Created by cross-breeding apricots and plums, there are dozens of varieties with an amazing range of color and flavor. All through the summer, Blossom Bluff Orchards picks each variety at its peak: Dapple Dandy, Honey Punch, Flavor Queen, Black Kat & Dapple Jack were all added to a sour blonde ale and aged in wine barrels to create this funky oak-aged brew.

Tap (Alus Celle, Riga). Hazy orange color. Tiny size, white head, disappears. Sour, acidic, fruity, raw plums in aroma. Acidic, sour, apples, fruity in taste. Sour and acidic in aftertaste. Makes my teeth dissolve. Acidity covers alcohol well. Not for me.

(375ml bottle from boxbeers.dk) Pours a pretty, slightly hazy dark peach colour with a small white head that leaves a lasting ring and lace. Aroma is tart, fruity and floral, lots of apricot-like notes, but richer, deeper and sweeter, backed by oak, white wine, plum skin, citrus, wet earthy funk, slight tones of sulphur. Flavour is again fairly tart, notes of apricot and tart pale plums, with a bit of a deeper dark plum vibe too, fair amount of tart blood orange, plum skins, white wine, lots of drying oak, very lightly funky. Lightish of body with fairly high carbonation. Less tart than some of this series, though not hyper-fruit forward so typical in that respect. Still, the fruit character that’s there is very pleasant. A good one.

Downright awesome. Having been a fan of canned plums for some time this was very interesting. Nose is the plums plus a sharpness. Appearance is very orange, but maybe some pink? Very hazy but that is okay. Mouthfeel very assertive, bubbly, sharp, then goes nicely sour and stays that way. Taste is mostly tartness, less of the plum than on the nose.

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/21/2016. Pours lightly hazy pinkish golden/orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of tart plum, peach, apricot, lemon, lime, green apple, pear, white grape, melon, berry, white wine, pepper, oak, hay, straw, wheat, and cracker; with lighter notes of vanilla, leathery/musty funk, slight vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pluots, wine barrels, and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of tart plum, peach, apricot, lemon, lime, green apple, pear, white grape, melon, berry, white wine, pepper, oak, hay, straw, wheat, and cracker; with lighter notes of vanilla, leathery/musty funk, slight vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness and light yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart plum, peach, apricot, lemon, lime, green apple, pear, white grape, melon, berry, white wine, pepper, oak, hay, straw, wheat, cracker, light leathery/musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pluots, wine barrels, and moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light dryness from tart/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/acidic, and lightly tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6.8%. Overall this is a great fruited sour/wild ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pluots, wine barrels, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, clean and quite refreshing to drink with the mellow tart/lactic finish. Awesome balance between fruit, Brett, and wine barrels; with a nice malt backbone. Not a ton of Lacto, but adequate. Was hoping for more acidity, but this was still very enjoyable.

Cloudy light brown, dirty color, with compact persistent head. The aroma is fruity, sour, wine barrel. Smooth, with a good body strength; the acidity is quite aggressive, but then it’s supported by a nice component of undefined stone fruit, and a feeling of yogurt.
Interesting; very good fruit Sour.
