UPDATED: FEB 6, 2018 Purchased at BevMo for $30.39, Grand Cru is an Imperial Sour Red Ale aged in red wine barrels brewed by Almanac Beer Co.
The air yields raspberries, cherries, and lemon as you drink. The appearance is a pinkish red color with a fast dissipating white head. When held up against light, sediment is visible. Carbonation is moderate. The abv of 10.5% is overpowered by the sharp tart and lemon flavors.
Raspberries have a domineering flavor from start to finish. Grapes provide a complimentary taste to the raspberry. Cherries are easily distinguished in the finish and adds punch to the sour and tart bite on the take.
Lemon is constant yet has a stronger character within the finish and tasted when you lick your chops. The mouthfeel has the impression of red wine from the barrel aging. The touch of oak is noted with the red wine. Vanilla beans are distant and is not realized until you notice it when you exhale.

750 ml bottle, vintage 2016, shared by Saeglopur, many thanks! Pours a hazy deep crimson with hardly any off-white head. The aroma is full of raspberries, some green apples, flowers, sour fruits. Medium body with a low to medium carbonation, a medium to heavy sourness and a medium tartness. Flavor of unripe raspberries, some vinegar, wood and lots of tart fruits. I actually preferred the smell over the taste which is for me a little harsh on the tart and sour side. Still an enjoyable beer.

750 ml bottle from Beergium, vintage 2016.
Red, hazy body, with a small, head.
Aroma with loads of fresh raspberries, red wine, some vinegar,
Tastes quite similar, but quite acidic, with more barrel notes, more vinegar.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes medium acidic, very fruity, medium wooden, with some vinegar, lots of raspberries again.
Tasty. I really love the nose, with lovely, dominant raspberries. Taste is too acidic though, while still really diverse. Overall great, complex stuff, among my favourite Almanacs.

750 mL bottle poured. Thanks, T! Awesome to try both the white and red here. Just further proof that Almanac really does kill it at the sour beer game. Love these bottles too. A beautiful, purplish red pour. High acidity. Very sour impression on the aroma. Cherry like. A good amount of red wine character. Flavor is a big pucker throughout. Mixed berry. Cherry. Wood. Lingering red wine notes really make this go full circle. This is the exact sour beer that I just love sipping on. Imperial, but in no way harsh. Love everything about this beer. Beyond incredible. tcon25 (1025) - Duvall, Washington, USA - SEP 14, 2017
Bottle pour at Andrews. Light redish tint pour. Tart red wine aroma, flavor is a balanced tart sour with a grape raspberry flavor. Great beer here.
