COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Grand Cru Red blends a Flanders Red-style sour ale with California red wine grapes, locally grown raspberries and whole vanilla beans to craft something truly unique. We combined lush Zinfandel grapes with a special imperial version of our oak-aged Dogpatch Sour ale and finished it with Santa Cruz Mountain raspberries and fragrant vanilla beans. Tannic red wine notes mingle with complex sour yeast flavors and French oak barrel character to create an exceptionally original new brew. Pair with rich and savory beef, venison or duck dishes and enjoy on very special occasions.

750 ml bottle, vintage 2016, shared by Saeglopur, many thanks! Pours a hazy deep crimson with hardly any off-white head. The aroma is full of raspberries, some green apples, flowers, sour fruits. Medium body with a low to medium carbonation, a medium to heavy sourness and a medium tartness. Flavor of unripe raspberries, some vinegar, wood and lots of tart fruits. I actually preferred the smell over the taste which is for me a little harsh on the tart and sour side. Still an enjoyable beer.

750 ml bottle from Beergium, vintage 2016.
Red, hazy body, with a small, head.
Aroma with loads of fresh raspberries, red wine, some vinegar,
Tastes quite similar, but quite acidic, with more barrel notes, more vinegar.
Medium, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes medium acidic, very fruity, medium wooden, with some vinegar, lots of raspberries again.

Tasty. I really love the nose, with lovely, dominant raspberries. Taste is too acidic though, while still really diverse. Overall great, complex stuff, among my favourite Almanacs.

750 mL bottle poured. Thanks, T! Awesome to try both the white and red here. Just further proof that Almanac really does kill it at the sour beer game. Love these bottles too. A beautiful, purplish red pour. High acidity. Very sour impression on the aroma. Cherry like. A good amount of red wine character. Flavor is a big pucker throughout. Mixed berry. Cherry. Wood. Lingering red wine notes really make this go full circle. This is the exact sour beer that I just love sipping on. Imperial, but in no way harsh. Love everything about this beer. Beyond incredible.

Bottle pour at Almanac Taproom. Bright hazy red color with some small bits of white foam on top. Aroma is excellent, complex, raspberries, vinous notes, oak, vanilla, light funk. Flavor is tart and a bit sweet, loads of raspberries and good well-balanced vanilla, big slightly tannic red wine finish. Fuller body, soft carbonation, silky feel. Now this is a killer mother-frigging beer! I could drink this all day. It's incredibly expensive though so I won't. Plus I'm a ticker.
