Mandarina Bavaria hops are Germany’s answer to the bold, vivacious US varieties found in West Coast-style brews. This hop is the daughter of Cascade and Hallertau, combining characteristic New World citrus flavors and aromas with the subtle spice of German noble hops. We blended our wine barrel-aged sour blonde ale with foeder-fermented brett saison to craft a complex base of stone fruit, oak, and earthy funk to compliment the tangerine and lime-like character of Mandarina. Each sip teases a new flavor, from grass to grapefruit to peaches and finishes crisp and dry.

Great balance - sour but not too sour, not trying to blow you away - just to taste well. Lovely citrus and tangerine notes from the hops in a medium sweet malt with light carbonation. Very drinkable for a sour - zero grimace. Great brewer.

Bottle, 03/06/17. Aroma is sour, berries, lemon, some oak. Taste is sour, bile, slight balsamic vinegar, oak, some gooseberry. Very nice. Delicious and easy to drink.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy/cloudy medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of lemon juice, unripe peach, oak, urinal cake, Smarties candy. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately to heavily acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately to heavily acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Not a fan of this one. Kinda generic lemon juice version with some urinal cake and artificial candy character. Boring sourness, watery, meh.

Cloudy amber-orange with a short white head. Aroma comes across as perfume, lemon juice, rose petals, strong oaky vanillin, bit of paint and spackle / caulk note from the culture, faint green chemical-like off-notes emerge as it warms. More depth than the typical bacteria-bomb American sour ales. In the mouth it’s tart and lightly sweet with pointed acidity and filling carbonation, finishing dry and biting and nearly wince-inducing brine-like sourness. Kind of a muddled fruit and yeast quality overall.

A 375ml bottle, bottled in November 2015. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku. It was a slightly hazy golden colour with a one and a half finger white head that dissipated fairly quickly while leaving only sparse lacing. Aromas were sour and tart orange and lemon with a hint of mango. Taste is what you’d expect from the aroma. Starts sour with tangy orange, lemon juice, unripe mango and peach. This is followed by hints of white wine and woody oak notes. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and some quite strong but nice acidity. Overall the citrusy fruits were expected from the Mandarina Bavaria, but I was pleasantly surprised by the unripe-ish mango sourness. Nice and refreshing from Almanac.

[8657-20160827] Tap. Fragrant orange tangerine skins aroma. Slightly hazy, pale orange yellow body with a quick foamy white head. Bitter tangy orange and soured grapefruit flavour. Medium body is super tart. Not a fan of the tart grapefruit infusion. (7/3/6/3-/13) 3.2

Bottle brought by Alex shared with Seb too A: citrusy, mango, pineapple, some tropical action. App: clear golden smallish white head with long acidic finish. Moderate carbonation. O: Can’t they do something wrong? It’s hoppy sour an excellent. Much appreciated.

Light haze on this gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light, dry and has a fine minerally crispness. A light tartness, so we are off to a good start! Nice winey tang blends well with mildly sour orange. Touch of orange sherbet on the light finish. Nice one.
