COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This spiced dark beer is inspired by 24th Street in San Francisco’s Mission District, also known as El Corazon de la Misión (the heart of the Mission). This vibrant street is full of color, energy, and life. A small, family-run taqueria dots every corner, each serving their family’s version of Horchata—a traditional Mexican rice drink spiced with cinnamon and vanilla that’s the perfect match for street tacos.

We took the classic ingredients of Horchata and put them into a milk stout, brewed with a blend of dark malts, oats, lactose, and almonds from GL Alfieri Farms and finished with whole vanilla beans and Vietnamese Saigon cinnamon. The result is an inky, dark ale with hints of spice and sweetness that’s the perfect match for an Al Pastor or Carne Asada taco from your favorite taqueria.

Near black w khaki head. Sweet nose and flavor but not overly so - the spices cut through that a little. Vanilla and chocolate. A little thin, but tasty.

Keg, one-third pint at BrewDog Castlegate. A tan-coloured head resting over a jet black body. Clingy lacing. Chocolate malty aroma, mid-sweet and mid-dry. Taste of vanilla chocolate added by nuts and spices. Mid-sweet dark malty ending, lightly roasted. Fine bodied. Enjoying (Aberdeen 19.04.2016).

Keg at The Bottle Shop, Bermondsey as ’Almanac Horchata Almond Milk Stout’. Dark brown, clear, still, small foamy tan head. Aroma is chocolate, biscotti, coconut macaroons and, of course, almond. Nice. Body is smooth with tingly carbonation. Taste is a little thin, bready, almond, metallics, dry finish. Pity about the thin taste because the aroma is very inviting.

Keg at the Bottle Shop - Bermondsey. Pours clear brown with a faint, creamy tan head. Interesting aroma, some sugary chocolate, well toasted bread. Medium sweet flavour with burnt chocolate, rich bread, some earthy bitterness, toasted caramel, dried berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, with more cocoa, mellow earthy bitterness, raisins, dates. Not bad.

Keg at The Bottle Shop, Bermondsey. It pours a clean brown color with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet with notes of vanilla, chocolate, caramel and pecans. Taste is also quite sweet with more notes of almond milk, vanilla, chocolate, caramel. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, tasty enough

Draft at SB. Pours an opaque matte black with a thin tan head that quickly fades. Sweet nose, chocolatey and a bit roasty. Cinnamon in the background. Creamy thickish body with soft carb. Roasty chocolatey mid palate with light cinnamon, not as creamy or sweet as an actual horchata but it’s flirting with that neighborhood. A nice drinkable beer, maybe intentionally dialed back from that full horchata sweetness so as to be more drinkable.
