Dry hopped saison brewed with local rye and wheat.

Introducing Saison Dolores, Almanac’s newest year-round beer. A bright, aromatic brew for all seasons inspired by San Francisco’s Mission District. We combine barley, rye and Sonoran Wheat grown in Mendocino County and ferment the beer with our house Saison yeast. Finally we dry hop it to create a California Saison with flavors of spicy white pepper, fruity melon and a clean food friendly finish. Enjoy this lively aromatic farmhouse ale with fresh seafood, funky washed rind cheeses and classic french-style charcuterie.

Canned version introduced in 2016 part of the fresh beer series, brewed and canned in San Francisco at Fort Point.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2017 660ml bottle: Pours a crystal clear light orange with thin white head. Aroma of apricot. Grapefruit pith like flavours. Bitterness is good, finished less dry than I expected. Medium bodied, medium low carbonation. Overall, a different version of saison.

Tap. Pours is a hazy orange/gold with a white head. Aroma of herbs, fruit, and toasted malt. Taste is slightly bitter with dry finish.

Bottle, 24/06/17. Pours a straw yellow with a good, white head. Aroma has lemon, saison yeast, some spiciness. Taste follows along the same lines. Alright, but not memorable. Doesn’t have that spritziness, zest or spring that you usually want in a saison of this weight.

12-ounce can pours slightly hazy, including some unfiltered yeast chunks (which is A-OK for me), yellow-orange with white soap-bubble head and lacing; lots of visible south-to-north carbonation in the glass, . Aroma: orange, lemon, yeast. Flavor: tangerine, yeasty bread, barnyard, cheese rind, white pepper, honey, cereal. Mouthfeel: light-bodied; crisp and refreshing.

Clean bright straw gold pour with three fingers of rocky white head. Citrus rind, earthy funk, peppery spice, bready grain, and yeasty notes round out the aroma. Overripe citrus and earthy peppery funk upfront in the flavor. Zesty/peppery with some raw bread dough. Light bodied and peppery/dry. Nice.

Bottle shared at Todd’s. A lot of carbonation but then a nice floral melon yeast saison that is tasty.

Clear golden under a thick foamy white top. Brisk grainy and floral dry hopped aroma with a kiss of rye and grass. Delightful delicate saison-forward flavor of the same notes as the nose; rye, wheat, light Belgian bready grains, and a delightful grassy dry hopleafy slightly lemony tone. Clean and belgianish and slightly hoppy but not so bitter. Super great.

Perhaps 10 oz. from a 25.4 oz. bottle, consumed on 1-22-17. Fresh, yeasty smell with scents of lemon and peach. Quite pleasant aroma for the most part. A touch of urine in the smell, however, that is not ideal. Alsco scents of green grape / white grape juice. Moderate to large amount of light beige, uneven head. Creamy texture of head. Hazy, gold liquid. The taste is a bit boozy, surprisingly. Dessert wine. A clash of sweetness and dryness in the taste. Not awful but far from my favorite saison flavors. Medium body. Somewhat undercarbonated. Soft in the palate. Overall, disappointing. Nothing special. I certainly was hoping for something more impressive in my first experience with this highly regarded brewery.
