COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Simcoe is a hop that almost needs no introduction. This US-born hop is big on musty, piney flavors and has long been a favorite of brewers on both coasts and everywhere in between, making it an easy choice for our latest dry-hopped sour: Simcoe Sour.

Signature Simcoe flavors and aromas blend seamlessly with the fruity, earthy character of our wine barrel aged sour blonde base beer, creating an intricate sour ale layered with dank, lime-like aromatics and refreshing tartness.

On tap at the Almanac taproom. I’m sensitive to Simcoe cattiness so I went in grudgingly... yep, cat pee and urinal cakes on the nose. Flavor has some key lime but I can’t shake the dive bar bathroom notes.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours cloudy paleish amber. Aroma is strong Brett and barrel, funk, some grassy hops in the background. Body is strongly sour throughout, rather fizzy carbonation, late tartness, texture dominated by that sour sting and bubbles. A little bit of fruit on the palate. Not enough taste for my taste.

cloudy gold yellow pour. Aroma pineapple, slight grassy hops, slight doughy sour culture, perfumey. tastes Sour perfumey honeydew melon. Very little residual sugar. lemons and pine wood. well done. simplicity of sour base doesn’t fully complement the complexity of the hops though.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2016 On tap at Lovebucket. Pours pale and cloudy with little head. Aroma is super tart lemon, floral notes and a little bread character. Flavour is a ton of lemon, plenty of pine, some stone fruit and some white grape. Fizzy and slick mouthfeel. Lovely.

Bottle poured into a shaker showing cloudy caramel brown with two fingers of clean white foam. The nose shows a big intense mix of cannabis and lightly dry pineapple, orange, and citric notes. The palate is fully carbonated and medium bodied. Well balanced flavors of the dry pineapple, orange and citrus with the cannabis-like flavors from the dry hopping. Highly tart with a light zest on the finish. The beer is dry hopped to perfection without interfering with the other flavors.

Pours golden orange with a one finger white head with excellent lacing. Aroma is of sour tropical fruits, musty pine, wine, dank lime, wet hay, and some funk. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma and is pretty sour. Has a medium body with a creamy mouthfeel and a dry, sour, long, lingering finish. Overall, a excellent, super refreshing, tropical sour that I could drink all the time if it was cheaper and more available.
