COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with a mash of raw and malted barley, oats, rye, spelt and lemon, this beer was fermented in used wine barrels with a blend of Brettanomyces wild yeasts and Marla Bakery’s San Francisco sourdough yeast. The finished beer is dry-hopped with tropical Mosaic hops. This unfiltered ale is alive in the bottle: drink fresh for a bright, passionfruit aroma or age to develop the wild yeast funk.

Like a hoppy Orval, this beer comes across as a brett saison or biere de garde. Nice and hoppy with some funk. Hopefully this’ll age well and get more sour.

Bottle pour. Super clear yellow orangish up top and a slight green Chardonnay on bottom. Head is snow white. Aroma is a funky sour fruit. Big notes of the wine barrel but then leads to a dry hoppy bitterness of mosaic. Yum. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle aged 9 months. Probably the most enjoyable almanac beer I've had. Has the essence of sourdough. Some brett funk. Outstanding

Hazy straw, white head. Amazing ripe, bright stone fruit nose. Flavor brings big juicy hop flavor, peach nectarine and some pungent tropical fruit. Super mild funk takes a back seat and a light grainy sweetness flashes before a dry, fruity finish. Overall a really great base beer that could be a world class sour if it had stronger brett/lacto character.

Very good, and I’m usually a fan of sours. Sour but not vinegary. Quite tart lemon flavor. Hint of saltiness even perhaps? The barreling seems to have had more of a mellowing effect than directly affecting flavor.

Glowing copper with frothy soapy bubble head. Farmy smells that blend with a light bitter smell. A light bitter with underlying funk. the bitter funk lasts beyond the sip. Dough funk bitter taste.

Bottle. Hazy gold with a 2 finger white head. Incredible aroma. Lemon, peach, mango dominate. Taste is lemon, lacto, spelt, grass, banana and slight alcohol burn. Not tasting the wine barrel. Medium mouthfeel and somewhat spritzy carb. Best Almanac brew to date.

Bottle from Jane’s shop. Aromas of citrus, green apples, some honey. Taste is sweet and sour, well balanced.

I’ve been looking forward to taste something from this brewery for a long time now. 355 ml bottle poured into a wine glass. Bronze pour with quite a frothy white head. Aroma is light lemon, dough and some yeast. Taste is nicely balance with some good sweet flavours from the malts, slight bitterness and lots of lemon peel. A lot like having lemon spongecake. Not as tart as expected. Really good one and I’m looking forward to rest of the beers from Almanac.
