Pours a beautiful deep orange hue with a 2 finger fuzzy head that fades quickly. Smells of blackberry, funk, dark cherry and vinous notes. Taste is black cherry, cough syrup, slightly bitter and tart, oxidized. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and effervescent. I probably let this once go a few years too long but it was fun to taste! vtafro (7445) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - JUL 22, 2014
(Backlog) Bottle of fantasy tasting at Paulís. Hazy golden pour with white head. Tart fruit, berries, funkiness, oak and wine aromas. Berries, blackberry, funk, wine and sour flavors. Nice. jredmond (8206) - New York, New York, USA - JUN 13, 2014
Bottle shared by Max at Paulís May 2014 tasting. Pours a golden body with white head and light lacing. Aroma is soft oak, lemon and light funk. Mouthfeel is soft and prickly with light carbonation and tart character. Notes of lemon funk, citrus fruits, light barrel flavor and funky yeast. Still nice after 3-4 years. Bottle shared by Max, this that ultra vintage Almanac yo. Poured golden color with bubbly white head. You donít get any blackberry or wine barrel in the tasting notes but this thing is a good 4.5 years old. Notes are mostly complex oak, funky yeast, lemon, and grape fruit. Lighter in body. daknole (11044) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUL 31, 2013
Gold pour, white head. White grape, berries, yeast, light oaky overtones, sour but not insanely so. Lactic hit up front and on the finish. Juicy. This was foreshadowing to what these guys were going to do.

Bottle. Golden pour, with a white head. Tart berry, wood, tannic, grape, light fruitiness. Overall not too interesting. vvesside (256) - California, USA - JUN 17, 2013
Great sour/wild ale with light blackberry flavor and some good character from the wine barrels itís aged in. badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - FEB 23, 2013
Bottle #416. Clear golden with a fluffy white head and champagne carbonation. Pleasant earthy and floral aroma of caramel, grape, vanilla, oak, blackberry, zinfandel character, and light hibiscus notes. Silky very bright and lively palate. Tart citrus, wine barrel, grape, and slightly sharp blackberry tastes with caramel, vanilla, and oak flavors on the finish. Some subtle lingering perfume and slightly oxidized notes on the far back end. Overall: well done. ineedbeer (2149) - Oakland, California, USA - FEB 3, 2013
Aroma has lots of Belgian yeast character along with some light fruitiness and some oak notes. A nondescript fruitiness - definitely not berry but there is a lot of fruit. A moderate phenolic note and some light oak aroma. Light alcohol character in the aroma.
Pours a cloudy golden orange with some copper notes. A thin white head with pour retention. Some light lacing and small lacing.
Some sweet malt character up front with a lot of fruitiness. Some light phenolic notes as well as a good amount of oak. Medium low acidity and tartness from the berries. Some alcohol in the finish and medium low bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Moderately high alcohol warmth and low astringency.
The flavor is a bit muddled and I'm not sure what this beer was meant to be. The fruit character isn't very clean and gets hidden behind the yeast notes and clashes a bit instead of compliments.

In short: A tired tart/oaky/tannic fruity golden ale.
How: Bottle 22oz shared by Max at post-HF Harvest 2012 party.
The look: Cloudy golden-amber body toped by a small off-white head.
In long: Nose is very oaky, I could smell the tannins (is it even physically possible?), dusty attic. Taste is hard-candy sweetness, plastic notes, dusty wood, some fruits, rust sensation, some old cheap white wine, some tannins, mild tartness. Supposed to be a blackberry beer but honestly even after reading the label I still couldnít taste blackberries. Body was rather lifeless which didnít help the beer. I donít know if all existing bottles are in this poor shape, but clearly the bottle I tried was pretty much dead. This beer tasted so very tired, not sure if it was a problem with the beer or it was too old, I wish there was a way for me to know when it was brewed.
