Brown/black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, and a hard burnt coffee like bitter finish. Much like black patent malt. Medium bodied and fizzy. borderline harsh RobertDale (6573) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - JUL 13, 2014

Sampled at the RBSG 2014. The label said ’Beta’. It poured a deep brown to black color with a beige head. The aroma was of roast, cocoa, a bit of chocolate and hops. It was medium-bodied with chocolate, thick and roasty, cocoa and some warm vanilla. seymour (2057) - Maplewood, Missouri, USA - MAY 12, 2014
Sampled at the brewery tasting room. It poured an opaque black with sudsy foam of tight little beige bubbles, long-lasting with nice lacing. Malty sweet, caramelly, chocolatey, toasty, fruity, smokey, roasty. Boosy, some definite rum barrel notes. Heavy syrupy body, full bready mouthfeel, charcoal aftertaste. Tasty and true-to-style barrel-aged RIS, though my favourites are more fully attenuated. Definitely something worth trying while it lasts.
