The return of “Bad Boy,” our ‘other’ double IPA, happens this Thursday as soon as our doors open. It’s NOT bottled but we will be filling growlers at the brewery and glasses at the pub. This beer, created by Shawn, uses hops that weren’t around when Pure Hoppiness was invented. That’s one of the reasons it has such a huge hop presence. We also use predominately Premium British ‘Maris Otter’ barley which enriches the flavor and deepens the body. Be careful at 9.25% abv

On draught at Toronado. Golden yellow with minimal head. Nose is floral, with citrus and resin notes thrown in. Taste is the same with a peppery finish. Overall a very good beer.

Bottle at home. Pours cloudy orange with a medium, bubbly white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy citrus, pine and resin hops with medium cracker malt, pineapple, apricot and peach esters. Flavor is heavy citrus and resin hops, juicy with moderate bitterness, dank notes, medium cracker malt, alcohol and a dry finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation.

(Rating #7722)

My Bottom Line:
Citrus fruit and slick honeyed malts meet alcohol heat before grassy resins grow to flowers.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam tops the misty honey blond.
-Mouthfeel is a touch sweeter than I expected. Might be the alcohol rounding things off as well.
-Drinkability is moderate for the style.
-For some reason, I didn’t like this as much as their Pure Hoppiness (even both are quite clearly in the same mold). Will need to try again in different circumstances.

Bottle thanks to Rob. Pours a cloudy orange gold with medium white head that lasts. The aroma is tropical fruit, dank, pine, resin. Medium body, grapefruit, pine, lingering resin finish, very nice.

Tap at brewery. Pours hazy, bright gold. Aroma and flavor are huge tropical, citrus, and floral hop bitterness, nice and juicy, pale malt base, faint sweetness, light alcohol spice, and a crisp, dry finish. Medium body.

Growler. Yellow/orange pour with a white head. Fruity hop aromas. Tasty fruity hop notes. Good balance with a nice caramel malty presence. Good body and mouthfeel. Just about as good as a IIPA gets.
