On tap @ Downtown Johnny Brown’s: Poured dark mahogany amber red in a 10 oz. glass and created a thick foamy layer of head. Aroma is fruity yet allows dashes of spice to come through from quality usage of Belgian yeast. Also there is an amazing scent of deep malts that have me falling in love while sniffing this beer out. The flavor isn’t as flavorful as the aroma lead me to believe but decent amounts of dried fruit comes through with just a pinch of spice. Pour on tap, hazy orange, copper pour with white head, aroma brought notes of lots of booze, slight dark fruits, some acetone, hints of earth, grain, some hints of dark caramel, toffee in there, more dark fruits come through but the odd chemical/acetone note is tough. Taste is even worse, some acetone, dark fruits, chemical notes with prunes, dates, figs, slight caramel, toffee, finishing boozy, bitter, slightly sweet. Tap. Pours deep copper amber with a small tan head that laces minimally. Aroma is toffee, molasses, prunes, yeast. Flavor is the same, medium sweet and pruny with a strong warming finish.

Poured up on tap at GABF 2012 with a clear sort of penny copper body that supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma is full up dates and prunes and radishes and sugar-y sugar. The taste is the same as I get notes of prunes and dates and figs that are a tad on the harsh side somehow followed closely by brown sugar and booze. It seems to end a little saccharin like which is off putting. Hmm. Darn, I was really hoping to love this one. Tasted at Toronado a while back on tap. Dark brownish in color with a tan like head. Aromas were what you would expect with some maltiness and roast character. Full bodied and pleasant on your palate. Alcohol well hidden. The flavors were of candi sugar, dark fruit,belgian yeast, and dark malt. The finish was sweet but balanced. On tap. Unfortunate they had to change the name to the current one. Pours with a clear, deep brown hued body with a tan head. Aromas are of dark fruits, molasses, leather, brown sugar and light chocolate. Complex yeast esters and malt interaction. Flavors are grainy, straw, complex, nutty, plum, dark fruit esters. Sample at GABF 10/11/2012, thanks to Bluemeow76 for assistance with note-taking. Dark brown color with a thin light beige head and spotty lace. Sweet malt and dark fruit in the nose. Full, smooth body with earthy malt, caramel and plum flavor. Sweet finish with a lingering malty aftertaste. Pretty enjoyable overall.
