3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
At PP SAF, malt and hop balance nose, very nice. Flavor is sweet, bitterness needs to balance out sweetness. Pretty good considering 17%
Pours a copper in color. Aroma and taste are intense and malty, like a syrupy malt lolly pop.

On tap @ Alpine Brewpub, Alpine - CA. Color: hazy brown beer with no carbonation and medium brown head. Smell: high sugar and caramel nose with fruity presence as orange and candied orange. Notes of Grand Marnier. Great bouquet on nose, and small alcohol finish. Taste: very deep oily sensation on mouth, great caramel and sweet presence. Notes of orange and candied orange. Finish as Grand Marnier. Aftertaste: orange and alcohol finish with high sugar domination. Really nice and sweet beer easy to drink when you compare to the ABV. A must to try but take care it’s a dynamite!!!! Ibrew2or3 (8808) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - DEC 26, 2014
Finally finally finally getting a chance to try this after lots of years of missing it. YES! It poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a murky deep copper body that supports a nice looking light tan head. The aroma offers up sweet malts, some nectar sweet maltiness, molasses and then snippets of malt and sweetness muted pine hops and floral notes. The taste is silky smooth and sweet and wonderfully rich. I get slick nectar sweet malts and then some malt and molasses nuanced pine hoppiness that is bitter but delivers only a thin ribbon of resiny notes. In the background it seems floral hoppy as well midway and into the finish. Yummy. snoworsummer (5959) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 6, 2014
Draft at the brewery. Pours opaque orange copper with a a fizzy off white head and decent lacing. Tastes thick and very sweet, like sugary raisins, plums, dates, with an earthy and slightly boozy aftertaste. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like dates, raisins, and sugary, malty alcohol. 50belair (3679) - Florida, USA - NOV 14, 2014
On tap at the brewery. Cloudy amber pour with a white head. Sweet malty aromas with an emphasis on honey and apricot. So sweet, almost overly so, with loads of honey and caramel malts. Apricot undercurrents. Good body and mouthfeel.

Draft at the brewery with Linh. Pours a deep Amber red with soapy white lacing. Aroma is raisin bread and fruity malt. Mouthfeel is medium to full, super sweet with notes of candied malt, sugar and raisin bread. Too sweet. MrTipple (5956) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 15, 2014
Aroma: heavy, overripe fruit, alcohol. Appearance: hazy brown, small head. Taste: heavy sweet. Palate: massive sweets carry on, fruit liquor, port wine. Overall: very nice Barley Wine, very nice sweets in both aroma and palate. Pint at Alpine Brewing, Alpine. User134089 (1644) - - OCT 8, 2014
Glass: 8-oz. snifter
From: Alpine Beer Company Pub
Purchased: Oct. 4, 2014
Consumed: Oct. 4, 2014
Misc.: BA calls Good as 17 percent ABV, but I remember seeing it as 14 percent in the pub. Could just be this year’s batch.
Poured a dark caramel, auburn, semi-clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki cream head when I got it. Light streams of bubbles coming from the bottom of the glass. Good amount of uneven lacing on the sides of the glass. Average-to-above average retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 4.27)
Smelled rye hops, sweetened iced tea, Citra hops, caramel, toffee, purple grape, light grape juice, plum, sugary candied lemon and some late booziness with big whiffs. (Smell - 4.15)
Wow was my first thought with the taste. Then it was this might be the smoothest barelywine I’ve ever had, not even taking into the account of the high ABV. Pretty close to the smell. Candied sugary lemon, sweetened iced tea, plum, purple grape, caramel, toffee and crisp rye hops. (Taste - 4.45)
Medium body. Oily texture. Medium carbonation. Long, smooth finish. Alcohol is well-hidden. (Feel - 4.87)
Just a fantastic barleywine. So damn smooth. (Overall - 4.55)

Raw, unaged 14% barley wine at the brewery. Hazy bronze color with a surprisingly long lasting tan head. Very light aroma of sweet malt and a hint of booze. Wow that’s a huge flavor. Sweet syrupy but not offensive. Somehow this is not hot. This must be amazing as great. dcschiller (2208) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - APR 21, 2013
On draught at Alpine. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with an eggshell head. Aroma is resiny hops, caramel malts, and dark fruit. Sweet with hoppy bitterness. Full bodied and sticky. Very good American barleywine that isn’t over-the-top bitter.
