COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We have released, for your ghoulish pleasure, our spiced holiday ale “Ichabod 2012.”
Available in 22 oz. bottles and on draught in the pub.

For those that don’t know, Ichabod is supposed to be an annually produced beer that always uses “pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg” but has a different base beer. The "annually" part has been an issue, but this year’s version has a base of a nice chocolaty Porter. It comes in at 6% abv and is creamy, dark and smooth with the spices and pumpkin kicking in as a nice compliment.

We have always had a hard time getting the pumpkin to contribute its flavor. So this year we used 240 pounds of pumpkin puree from Oregon. We used it in the mash tun, the boil kettle and the fermenter too! That amount of pumpkin is about 5 times more than our previous versions.

Tasted from the pub at the brewery. Dark brown and black in color. The cinnamon and spice mildly apparent in the aroma. Medium in body. Pumpkin flavor pretty subdued and more dark roast in the beer. Some bitter hops and fairly dry finish. Not super unique but not a bad pumpkin beer.

This was sampled at the Alpine Beer Company. The dark ale had no head and lacing. I expected a sweet beer but that was not the case. It had the taste of roasted malt for a porter the base beer. The medium body beer had soft carbonation. It is their seasonal beer on different base beers. This is great place to hang out and try differnt well made beers.

650 ml bottle. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown color with a small beige head that soon recedes to a fine film. The aroma is earthy, roasty and musty with mocha, dark chocolates and melons. The taste is complex with well roasted grains in the forefront, then--fruits, spices, chocolates and bitter walnuts. The palate is full and creamy smooth and the carbonation is soft. Finishes long, dry and leaves you with an earthy aftertaste. Overall: This is what a Bud drinker would call Weird, but I call it Yummy.

Thanks Eric for the bomber! Enjoyed at 50 Degrees F in a Tulip.

A - Deep dark amber brown in the glass. No head, amber hues but ultimately, a very dark beer.

S - Lots of Fall spices in this beer loving the cinnamon and nutmeg and very raw sort of pumpkin innards on the nose.

T - Sort of an earthy musty up front taste, brown sugar and spices at the middle. Finish is VERY well balanced with spices and other goodness. Wow.

M - Medium body, light carbonation. This is very nice residual sweetness at the finish.

O - Nicely balanced beer! Very pleasant to drink.

19 oct 2012, bottle. Dark ruby/brown. Nose is mild ground coffee, tart malt and coffee. Med/thin body and mildly fizzy. Faintly minty, mildly butter dark chocolate. Everyone that shared the bottle with me thought this beer was bad or had a bacteria but I didn’t think so not wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad.

I opened this on the party bus, Friday of GABF. Bottle from hamilton23. Pours a dark brown with a nice tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, some good pumpkin backbone and light spice. Flavor is all roasted malt, pumpkin flavor and just the perfect amount of spice. Well done.

Bomber shared by the guys in the party crew on the bus! 930 am, lets get cracking! 2012 version. Pours a deep brown color with a medium white head. A smooth nose of pumpkins and chocolate, light roast. Very smooth and clean flavors: pumpkins, light spices including cinnamon, light porter elements with chocolate and caramel. Good.
