Growler via trade. Pours a clear honey golden color with a white head that leaves some nice lacing. Aroma has lots of tropical and citrus notes. Sweet malt backbone with more light, citrusy hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Very easy drinking. Nice beer. swoopjones (7020) - Buffalo, New York, USA - APR 9, 2012
On tap at gene mccarthy’s fat heads tasting. Medium golden pour. Great floral hop flavor, very drinkable IPA. Very well made, not a huge typical west coast IPA. Aroma is slighter than the flavor. Huge surprise hopscotch (11181) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - FEB 11, 2012
Growler… Clear golden ale with a mid-sized, wispy, white head. Great retention. The bouquet is ripe with yellow grapefruit and honeydew melon with touches of tangerine and orange. Medium-bodied with prickly carbonation. Light, fruity sweetness more than balanced out by crisp, honeydew bitterness. Finishes crisp, mildly bitter and very refreshing. Clear gold pour. White head. Nice fruity/hoppy aroma with citrus and honey. Flavor is juicy hoppy, lightly bitter, grassy. Very drinkable. Thanks to dcschiller. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JAN 30, 2012
Growler shared by Kan. Thanks, buddy! Pours a nice glowing golden hue, vibrant glow and faint haze. A big cakey brighter white head cakes and laces ok overall. Stays big. Aromas are a healthy dose of fruity hops, lots of melon, citrusy lemons and grapefruit, florals, grass. Lots of fruity melon, some touches of pale malts, bread. Initial is lighter bodied, a bit heavier, with some bright fruity hops. Lots of melon, florals, and grass. Dry hops offer good hops, flavor, dryness, and fruit. Mellow bready malts, fairly clean maltwise displaying the hops well. Backend and middle offer some touches of sweetness. Dry and crisp, yet with some gentle sweetness still keeping in the fold, a touch of gumball. It’s a solid fresh fruity IPA, but just a touch sweet. Nice solid beer. But lacks something for Alpine.

Growler shared by Kan! Pours a near clear gold with a near white head thar lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a nice pine jop note with a bit of grapefruit snd flora. Flavor begins with grapefruit but finishes with pine and citrus fruits. pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 28, 2012
Growler courtesy of Joey... Pours a mostly transparent cidery orange brown hue and topped with a creamy frothy white head that dwindles down to wispy frothy film... Melony sweet with a sweeter crystal malt profile overall which seems a little more fatheads than alpine.... Flavors are similar with sweet melon and crystal malt flavors. A fair citrus rind bitterness exists to go alongside the aforementioned. Just shy of medium to medium bodied with adequate semi-lively carbonation. thome50 (1295) - Morro Bay via Orange County, California, USA - JAN 27, 2012
Pours a clear golden color with slight white head. Aroma is soapy with some pine and earthiness. Taste was bitter, in a good way, with some bitterness at the back end that was not so nice. Very little sweetness in this but had a honeydew character 3/4 of the way through that stood out. (Probably even without the name.) Not sure how to find the root but this really tasted like a Fat Head IPA more than an Alpine IPA. Overall, descent but both breweries have done a lot better IPAs but this would be a nice beer to have on tap down the street. Cole (967) - , Alberta, CANADA - JAN 27, 2012
Pours amber with a very nice head. Great aroma, it really does smell like melon. Flavour is very nice bold and bitter. Very nice brew. callmemickey (4561) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 26, 2012
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Clear orange-gold body. Moderate sized white head, good retention, decent lacing.
S: Yup, watermelon is there. Also get some grapefruit, a bit of resinous notes ,a vegetal component as well, and perhaps a dash of Simcoe-like "cat piss."
T: Nice balance between fruity notes (watermelon and grapefruit mostly) and a bitter, resinous character. Quite tasty and unique!
M: Spot on. Medium bodied, assertive carbonation, aggressive bitterness, clean and crisp finish, and interesting to the palate.
O: An interesting, and ultimately successful single-hop IPA. While it’s not my favorite of the Alpine offerings, I’d certainly love to see this hop used again (as Melonhead) or combined with something like citra.
