Draft at Stone Bistro. Clear black pour, off-white head. Grapefruit, resinous hops, citrus, sharp bitterness, and lightly roasted malt. Very hoppy black IPA, and lacks some of the chocolate notes seen in others of this style. Great if your in the mood for a hoppy alpine beer.

Growled courtesy of Snojerk321. Poured into a tulip. Dark brown-black with frothy tan head. Aroma of big toasty malt, lots of coffee. Roastiness overpowers the piney and citrus hops, but they’re there. Taste is bitter both from the hops and the roasted malt. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. I would have liked a better balance of hops and malt, but pretty tasty.

Draft at Toronado with james and andrew. Pours a pitch black color with slight head. Flavor is hoppy with some dark malts. Slightly less cohesive than other offerings in this style, but very good.

Growler shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike! The beer is dark brown and appears nearly transparent, in spite of the dark color. The head is about 1/2" thick, and leaves some decent lacing behind. The aroma is primarily of citric hops, with mild roast. The flavor follows suit, and marries the roast with hops nicely. Flavorful and well balanced. A good brew, but nowhere near the quality of their regular IPA lineup. Serving type: growler Reviewed on: 05-27-2011
