UPDATED: SEP 27, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Dark golden with a handsome, lacing head. Distinct smoked notes, but otherwise surprisingly thin-bodied, almost watery. 140200

(Bottle 50 cl) As "Altenmünster Steinbier" by Sailerbräu Franz Sailer in Marktoberdorf. Clear reddish brown colour with a beige head. Notes of caramel and smoke and a lasting, long bitterness. 130101

I didn't realise that this was a rauchbier when I picked up the bottle and there is no mention of "Rauchenfelser" on the label, which just says "Steinbier" - perhaps part of the label had fallen off. However, there was no mistaking it on the nose and on the palate, although slightly less dominant than some. It's one of the great mysteries to me that a beer that tastes of bacon can be so appealing. But I'm a sucker for rauchbier, even a relatively mediocre one like this. The finish is flabby, the hop profile low and the whole thing a bit thin. Yet still I like it. I suppose we all have our weaknesses. Bottle (500ml).

Amber color. Light smokey aroma. Dry and poor, just with a nice smokey note, but the malt is not enough.

Firm, lightly smokey. Quite enjoyable and definitely unique................

Lubiere (14151) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 27, 2006
Dirty hazy amber beer with a thinnish white head. Aroma of bacon chips and cardboard. In mouth, a watery lemony smoked beverage, lifeless and boring, with almost no caracter left. Got this one from Piscator last autumn, so I take it it didnt last the test of time, not sure if this is production date or BBD: 02-10-04 3L

argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - NOV 18, 2003
Clear copper body with medium beige head. Aroma is heavily smoked meat/cheese. Taste is very smoked (pork), slightly sweet, some caramel. Light-medium body that doesn't support the strong smoke as much as I'd like.

Bottle. Pours nutty brown with a small rocky-fizzy tan head. Smoked caramel medium roasted malt aroma, heavy ash and wood notes with faint notes of bacon grease and fruits. Ashy medium roasted heavily smoked wood and malt flavor, some fruits and bacon. Medium bodied fizzy palate.

bierkoning (13674) - La Tropica/Doarp, NETHERLANDS - AUG 11, 2004
On the label: Altenmünster Steinbeer. Dark amber color, smoky aroma. Full bodied. Smoky flavor. Beechwood. Malty. Shorting smoky aftertaste. Nice beer.
