500 ml flip-top bottle picked up at Wasanas in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Pours a brown color with a beige head. The taste is a sweet malty body with a pleasant and balanced bitterness. Palate ends a little thin. ganache (5910) - New Jersey, USA - NOV 1, 2011
Swing-top bottle by 03.12. Sweet caramel nose. Ruby-chestnut pour with a fizzy tan head. Taste is sweet with low bitterness, has a rich caramel and toffee profile with pleasant nuttiness and more than a handful of Maillard graduates. Juicy light body is very malty, has earth tones and enough hops for balance. Touch of sour roast. There’s a bit of a stale note keeping it from getting a quality rating of "süffig", but there’s a lot to like here. jaghana (6073) - Strasbourg (Alsace), FRANCE - OCT 29, 2011
Bottle 50cl, a clear amber brown beer with good head. Nose is hopy and vegetable like. Aroma is on caramel and burnt caramel, even some smoked notes, very bitter with a peppery hops that remains on aftertaste. redlight (2318) - Orlando, Florida, USA - OCT 26, 2011
Draft @ epcot. Pours dark brown with a thin white head. Caramel malts with just a slight hint of smoke and bitter chocolate. A really great dunkel! porterhouse (1580) - Boothbay, Maine, USA - OCT 14, 2011
(Draft @ brewers’ tent, Germany, Epcot, WDW, Orlando FL, called simply "Altenmünster Dunkel", I’ll assume this is the correct beer) Served in a plastic cup. Dark brown with some dark amber highlights. Small tan head. Aroma of unsweetened cocoa, caramel, nut. Mouthfeel fairly full and round but a bit pebbly and sort of dry. Flavor of chocolate, caramel and nut - decent but a little reserved. A hint of sour undertone toward finish. Finishes a little crisp and dry.
