3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Slightly chilled 33cl bottle into a tumbler. It had a lot of carbonation, pours as lively as a Duvel but settles down quickly. A nice two finger beige head sitting on top of an almost black body. The head calms down to a thin head with a nice smattering of dark yeasties on top. After it sits for a little bit the unfiltered nature is apparent as the sediment settles to the bottom.
Aroma is interesting... sour cherry, woody, and breadlike. Nothing is overwhelming but it is really interesting. Taste has a nice cherry sour to it from the start to the finish. Sometimes there is a little sweetness or smokiness in the middle. The malt is noticeable for a brief moment as well. The finish is a smoky bitterness that lingers for a little while.
This is surprisingly light bodied for 9% ABV and a strong belgium ale. The mouthfeel is lively, not quite fizzing and creamy. Most of the cream comes from the strong layer of foam on top. Overall, I’ll probably pick this up again if I see it anywhere.
Bottle at home. Dark red-brown with a rocky tan coloured head that subsides to a collar of foam. Aroma is of roasted malt, tobacco and licorice with an odd acetic backnote. Any initial sweetness is soon overridden by a rasping bitterness. Toasted malt and red fruit flavours. Tangy and slightly sharp with a long dry finish and a sticky body. nathanvc (635) - Brugge, BELGIUM - JAN 12, 2017
An absolute gusher! After that, pours hazy deep amber with a foamy beige head. The aroma contains malts, yeast, caramel, citrus and spices. It tastes medium sweet, medium sour and light bitter. Lingering sour finish. Oily texture and fizzy carbonation. 77ships (10770) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - SEP 21, 2015
330 ml. bottle sampled. BBF BBF 08/2016. GUSHER – HUGE GUSHER. Now my floor & table are all sticky and dirty! Yeah Alvinne…… enough has been said. Dark to murky brownish, head collapses almost instantly but not before it spills over everywhere,…. Nose is sour red fruits, vinous, sour oak, faint vinegar, Oud Bruin-like, sour red fruits & soda. Taste is rotting red fruits & leathery rotting tobacco, malts, not quite sour but dirty & a faintly almost sour, rotting red fruits, watery, caramel, milk chocolate, oak, old wet leaves, compost, rotting wet oak,… Watery, hugely messy body. Almost approximating a failed Oud Bruin, a real mess but acceptable if you enjoy the Oud Bruin style. Obv. this is everything but what it was supposed to be. APPEARANCE: brown beer, nice stable beige head, but extreme GUSHER... Alvinne made again, happy to hear though they found the problem behind this recurring event, and fixed it.
NOSE: caramel, sweet, malts, molasses?
TASTE: caramel, sweet, malts. Oké beer kraddel (8721) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - OCT 27, 2014
Bottle at home
Pours dark brown , big white head .
Smell is very weird ... Green, but not at all in a hoppy manner, more like... earthy , leaves ,caramel, herbs ... Very complex and just weird . Taste is bit bitter, sweet, chocolate, bit metallic, earthy , caramel , malts, the herbal character is there, but way less than in the scent . Very , very complex beer, with the ideal carbonation . aftertaste is herbal earthy , soft and a tad sweet .
No gusher, yet made by alvinne ( appatently different yeast according to the description . it IS possible ! shorlin (721) - St. John’s, Newfoundland, CANADA - SEP 23, 2014
Random pickup from a store in Milan, had no idea what it was. Medium brown, little head. Aroma is quite boozy, with chocolate, molasses, boozy dark fruit rum cake. Taste is pretty nice, very enjoyable sweetness with a slick finish. I thought it was great.
