On tap at Altstadhof Brewpub, Nurnberg. Reddy brown with white head. A malty sweet beer with sweet caramel flavours throughout, very toffeeish and tinny. I did get some kiwi fruit in the close to add a little interest. Not great.

bottle from Altstadthof brewpub. Thin off white head. Red / amber pour, clear. Malty after taste. Nice enough.

My Bottom Line :
Drinkable but underhopped, this reddish lager focuses on its light caramel and toasted bread flavors in a soft, naturally carbonated mouthfeel.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A sheet of foam covers the hazy copper.
-Fruity edges recall plums and pomegranates.
-This might be a different offering for Germany, but it feels like most generic Amber or Red Ales brewed in North America.
-The body is plumper than your average session lager.
-The finish really needs some more hop bitterness to create balance.

On tap at the brewpub.

Draft. Pours deep amber with a beige head. Sweet malts, lighter fruity notes, and a hint of floral hops. Not bad.

downender (8660) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - NOV 16, 2007
On tap at the brewpub 3/11/07. Amber with a moderate white head. Malty aroma with some red fruit and orange hops. Flavour was malty with a dry finish. Good, but nothing like as good as the Schwarzbier.

(Rating #3852)

motelpogo (7704) - Plzen, CZECH REPUBLIC - AUG 16, 2004
on tap at the brewery with one of those renowned nuremberg snags. hard to judge the colour in the ceramic mug but didn´t seem particularly dark. not way tasty but rounded and smooth with some brown sugar and a moderate aluminium finish

Draught. Head is frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers), with a note of orange. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Could have been old/soured, maybe an autumn seasonal? Had in November 2003 at the brewpub.

Earthy fruit aroma. Red amber colour, creamy off-white head. Grainy malt, earthy fruit, peach. Medium to light body, smooth mouthfeel. Brilliant beer!
