Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 4C). Draft @ Hausbrauerei Altstadthof. AROMA: mild roasted notes reminiscent of coffe with a sweet malty background. APPEARANCE: dark color and somewhat hazy. average pale brown head with medium retention. TASTE: sweet malt flavour with roasted notes. medium-low bitterness with a semi-sweet finish. PALATE: medium-low body with low carbonation. OVERALL: a not bad craft schwarzbier.

On tap at the brewpub. Dark brown in the glass, nice head. Roasty-malty aroma. Starts roasty-malty, soft, some nutty notes, a bit sweetish. Also some earthy notes. Finish a bit too mild. Okay.

0.2 l draught @ Altstadhof, Nürnberg (part of the beer tasting palette). Colour is, well, black. Taste has roasted malts, some sweetness and chocolate. Very nice.

On tap at the brewery in Nuremberg. Black beer lasting beige head. Roasty chocolate and malty flavour. It’s fine. Not overly intense but a decent schwarz. Some light roast Full in the mouth.

Roublard (218) - Prague, CZECH REPUBLIC - NOV 15, 2013
Tapped in Altstadthof brewery, Nurnmber. Carbonised light body, color could be a bit darker, aroma is rich - fruits (banana, apple), chocolade, malts. Tastes with very chocolade tones, finish is medium, not so bitter.

Moravius (1516) - Berlin, GERMANY - NOV 10, 2013

1l bottle. Reddish dark brown body, light brown head. Aroma of coffee, dark fruits and creme. Pretty much like the aroma of a good stout. Lots of coffe in the taste with creme and dark fruits. Very balanced beer. I like it.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2013 13/V/13 - 1L swing top bottle @ Dieter’s place - BB: ??/XII, no year indicated, so not a clue as to it was this year’s December, or last year’s. (2013-464) Thanks to Dieter for sharing the bottle!

Clear red brown beer, big aery beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: caramel, bit earthy, overripe banana, bit lemony. MF: lots of carbon, light body. Taste: very unpleasant sourness, vinegar, bit of dried fruits. Aftertaste: very sour, lemony, vinegar. Clearly infected. Too bad.

Tap @ brewpub 01/02/13. Pours black with auburn tinges and a medium, latte-colored head. Aroma is caramel, roasted, chocolate, delicious. Strong chocolate. Taste is chocolate again, dark fruitiness, light roast. Palate is light with not much carbonation. Not as delicious as the aroma lets you expect.
