Had this on tap at Schwarzer Bauer, Hausbrauerei, Nuremberg, Germany, Tuesday 5th June 2012 Pours very, very dark brown with an off-white head. Bubbles tingle in the mouth again this has a good soft carbonation and has a nice sweetness with caramel and some dark sticky fruit als present. A very decent beer much like the Maibock but not quite as good. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5 kiwianer (3428) - Otorohanga, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 8, 2012
On tap @ the brewpub. The head is robust, the body dark. It smells roasty. The taste is a bit roasty, malty, balanced. Good! 12/11/10/11/-/11 Marko (5711) - Split / Zagreb, CROATIA - APR 4, 2012
Draught at the brewpub. Poured a very dark red body, blackish, with a tan head. Soft raisiny malty nose, nice, some coffee in there too. light taste, light chicory that goes into the aftertaste. some ho-hum hoppy bitterness, but it doesn’t detract much. The maltiness is fine enough, soft, but it all ends dry. Far better than the helles at least. TAR (2765) - Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA - MAR 12, 2012
Draught at Hausbrauerei Altstadthof: Penetrable black. Fizzling off-white head mostly dissipates. Dull and uninviting nose of medicine, plum and cola. Lighter shades of minerals, dark chocolate truffles and earthy cocoa. Watery and flimsy mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Overbearingly acidic roast clashes with potent chocolate. Extremely flabby with a faint overripe plum and medicine edge. Ensuing notes of paint and plastic exacerbate the fusel sharpness. Some malty lushness is vaguely perceptible, with much of it being obscured by the rotting plums. Finishes with a cola-like sweetness and malt-deadening fruity twang. Very muddled, limp and colalike, poor malt definition, etc. Quite lackluster. And apparently this was once a reputable schwarzbier worth traveling for. Bummer that no longer seems to be the case. Draft at the brewpub. Wow ... another delicious offering at this little place! Roasty malt, toasty and finishing with a nice little mildly sweet flourish. I love little hausbrauerei! (#4380, 11/30/2011)

Draught at Altstadthof.
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (coffee, chocolate, roasted grain, husks), with a note of diacetyl.
Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, husky.
Light to medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation.
Such a shame when a once-great beer is no longer so. Not as bad as the Helles, but very dull and disappointing.
Sweet, raisin taste mixed with a little roasted. Nice foam structure. Hops not so present in the main taste. Very good I recomende it for all people who visit nuremberg!
