Draught at the brewpub. A huge dissapointment. I drove 13 hours from Copenhagen to Nürnberg just to taste this beer. And it sucked. Beautiful reddish brown coloured. Very buttery aroma with sour lactic notes. The same in the flavour. Very infected and very undrinkable. Brewpubs selling infected beer thinking they can get away with it are highly unserious. Altstadthof is one of them. kerenmk (5038) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - OCT 8, 2017
On tap at Aldstadthof Hausbrauerei, Nuremberg. Dark brown. Faint nuts, roasted malts, some caramel but all very faint. Sweet, slightly bitter, mild roastiness and coffee in the mouth. Light body for the style, chocolate and raisins finish. Lowenbrau (4684) - Asturias, SPAIN - JAN 18, 2017

As "Altstadtof Das Schwarze".
Pours hazy dark brown-copper with garnet reflections. Nice light tan head, frothy,. Moderate head retention, some lacing. Coffee and roasty, licorice nose. Medium body, average carbonation, oily texture. Taste is roasty, some coffee, malty, sweet aftertaste.
Big foamy, off-white head. Dark brown to black color. Fresh malty flavor, notes of roasted malt, toffee, light chocolate and cacao. Medium bodied, light bitter finish. Fresh malty nose, light fruity chocolate note. Pleasant and complex beer. rauchbier (3926) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - SEP 5, 2004
Tap, at the brewpub. Hazy chestnut red, moderate off white head and low condition. Roast barley dominated aroma with some chalky yeast. Thin roasted notes in the mouth and low chalky yeast in the finish. Would have liked a bit more body in this one.

Vom Fass at Hausbrauerei Altstadthof in Nürnberg. Poured dark ruby in color with tan head. Sweet and malty aroma. Slightly burn and roasted malts in flavour Bittersweet finish with a rather burnt aftertaste. Jukkabro (3484) - Tampere, FINLAND - JUL 2, 2008
Near black colored with red hints. Little light brown head. Sweet caramelly aroma with licorice and handmade yeasty note too. Good one, though not the most traditional schwarz beer aroma. Flavor is more dry with still caramel and licorice, aftertaste has yeast with some lemon. Good beer. kiwianer (3428) - Otorohanga, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 8, 2012
On tap @ the brewpub. The head is robust, the body dark. It smells roasty. The taste is a bit roasty, malty, balanced. Good! 12/11/10/11/-/11 Maverick34 (3315) - New York, USA - APR 4, 2007
Draft at brewpub. Very dark brown w/thick beighe head. Aroma is coffee and nuts. Taste is coffee w/mild hops. A great schwarzbier, one of the best. TEJA (3200) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 19, 2010
A friend brought a bottle from Germany for a tasting. The tasting was one week after best before date and unfortunantly the beer was more like a Rodenbach than a Schwarzbier.
