75 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma is fruity, apple, citrusy and dark roasted malty. Smooth malty flavoured. Subdued fruity apple note. Dark malty and roasted breadish. Smooth subdued apple fruity finish with a nice roasted breadish base.

Ungstrup (37859) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - AUG 26, 2010
Bottled. A dark brown beer with a red shine under a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of alcohol and sweet malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of a boring malt blend and caramel as well as lighter notes of berries, leading to a dry finish where a note of vegetables appears.

joergen (28365) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - MAR 9, 2010
Bottle at PreZBF 2010. Hazy dark brown coloured with a small beige head. Fruity aroma of caramel, dried fruits, red wine and oak. Fruity flavour of caramel, dried fruits, red wine, oak and alcohol. Warming alcoholic finish.

oh6gdx (26487) - Vasa, FINLAND - MAY 2, 2010
Bottled (from bierkompass.de). Quite much pitch black colour with small bubbly brown head. Aroma is liquorice, some yeast, mild smoked wet wood, some barrelnotes as well as some grapes. Flavour is mildly toasted notes, some liquorice, alcohol and some wooden barrel. Very interesting tobaccoish smoked wet wooden aftertaste.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2010 Bottle at pre-ZBF 2010. Maroon color, no head, no lacing. Aroma of scotch and raisins. Taste has port wine, caramel, licorice. Complex and interesting. 3.8 Update: Draft at Churchkey, shared with Bryan, Shawn, Lisa. Paired with epoisses cheese and cherry chutney. More sour than the previous taste, oak is more apparent. Character and complexity have both improved. Very nice. 4.0

Pre ZBF. Opaque black beer - brown edges. No head. Dry palate with zero carbonation. Dry dark malt with some bitter chocolate. Fresh spicy apple in the finish and aftertaste. Not bad but something is missing. Palate is too dry. Original rating 3.3.

Bottle shared with the Kernel crew. Very hazy amber beer, little white head. Light palate, crisp and semi dry. A little caramel malt and minerals both of which are subservient to the dry spicy calvados. Smie dry finish. Ageing seems to have evened this one out.

The color is very dark, almost black; the bottle starts gushing slowly, but in the glass there is only a small-sized head, a thin cfreamy layer of which is persistent. Mild aroma, some roasted malts, light smoke, and light vinous character. Good body strength; strong chocolate flavor, and roasted malts, dry, with some Belgian character; there is an impression of ashes and a quite strong liquorice presence; I can’t really feel the Calvados. The alcohol content is well managed, and the bitterness level is correct.
Solid brew, but unimpressive, unexciting.
