3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2013 Bottle bought at Alvinne. Pours brown color, unfortunately without much head. Aroma of hops, sweet fruit, smoke, roasted malt. Palate : soft carbonation, medium body, bitter finish. Flavor of smoked ham, roasted malts, some caramel, bitter chocolate.

Dark brown colour, huge tanned head. Nose has Alvine scent (wood, sour, dark fruits, wine) hints of smoke, spices. Taste is dark matls, hops, pepper, hints of smoke. Bitter and spicy ending. Very nice still after all these years. Alengrin (5884) - BELGIUM - AUG 9, 2014
Presented as a ’smoked bock’ with five malt types and three hop varieties. Light beige, thin head, colour dark brown with ochre glow. Typical Rauchbier aroma of smoked meat, toasted bread, dried herbs, liquorice, red berries; taste a woody, bitter chocolatey maltiness, dry, clearly smoky but the smoke malt appears to be well-balanced against the other malts and is therefore not too overpowering, some dried fruits, hop bitter finish, bit of solvents. Another of their endless experiments but not the most successful at least to my personal taste. JefVerstraete (3739) - Oosterzele, BELGIUM - JUN 19, 2014
Dark brown colour, white foam. Medium carbonation. Aroma of light roasted malts with acidic notes. Some caramel and spices and very light smoky taste.

Bouteille: Hazy, deep amber coloured, medium-sized off-white head; peated malt (not really smoked?), toasted malt, some fruits and a certain yeasty acidity in the nose; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, again with a delicate acidity, medium bodied; dryish and a bit tart yeasty and roasty finish. O.K., but more smoke please… MarcoDL (5468) - NETHERLANDS - SEP 6, 2013
Smoked beer with the special Alvinne twist. Rauchmalt, combined with a spicey herbal yeast. Very nice. deanso (10258) - Chiang Mai, THAILAND - AUG 27, 2012

Very dark beer with a beige head. Very lively. Slightly gushing. Aroma of smoked bacon and dark malts. Mild fruitiness in the nose as well. The smokiness is more outspoken in the taste. Smoked bacon again, nice soft bitterness at the end as well. Burned malts and caramel present. Very good beer! Noctilucus (117) - All over Belgium, BELGIUM - JUN 28, 2012
Very dark burgundy, nearly black or at the least very dark brown, a great deal of lasting brown foam, almost looks like a stout. One you need to pour carefully because of the massive foam generation.
The nose is smoked (no surprise here considering the name), almost ash with a sour undercurrent, very much in line with expectations.
The taste is pretty consistent, strongly smoked with a stoutish sour and some additional bitterness.
Absolutely to my liking, I would certainly recommend this to fans of smoky beers!
