Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is mild and slightly sweet fruity, dark sugar, raisins, minerals, grass, oak, almonds, burnt caramel, bark, alcohol. Taste is slightly dry fruity, weeds, minerals, raisins, grass, dried fruits, oak, burnt sugar, bark, candy sugar, caramel. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mineraly mouthfeel. Nice.
0.5l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. Looks good this with a cloudy deeper copper colored body and a nice medium sized slowly fading beige top. Smells nice also with a sweet malty and caramelly base. There’s also a surprising hop presence in this old man. Mild red fruits and hints of wood. Like it. Doesn’t taste bad either. It’s nice and almost creamy in the mouth. Sweeter in the taste. Not cloying in any way but really malt driven and caramelly. Almost a little sticky. Red berries, a little yeast. Bottle. Pours dark , unclear amber - brown. Small white head. Smell is bit sweet, some raisins. Taste is intense, dark fruits, alcohol warmth, raisins, sweetness, bit of malts . Bottled. Pours clear mahagony with a small off-white head. Aroma of ripe dried fruit, caramel, grapes spicy notes and wood amoung with a hint of vanilla. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry with alcohol too. Medium to full bodied, oily to syrupy texture and soft to average carbonation. An excellent Barley. Alengrin (5369) - BELGIUM - SEP 6, 2014
Barley wine matured on Malaga Moscatel barrels, with creamy, yellowish white, surprisingly stable head and hazy bronze colour. Utmost complex aroma with so many things going on: chocolate, grapes, kahlua, sage, oak, caramel, bitter honey, candi syrup, banana liqueur, cake, with everything in perfect balance. Fruity and citrussy onset, dryish with slick, vinous mouthfeel, caramel and honey, deeply malty, aromatic spicy hops in the finish with a woody accent and very agreeable, cognac-like warming alcohol. Complexity is one thing, managing to get all those flavours blend with each other is another. Alvinne succeeded in doing just that, so that I have no other choice but to rank this among the best barley wines I ever tasted. And I love barley wines, so...

ABV: 12.5%. Clear medium to dark amber - red brown color with a large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, dried fruit, caramel, wood, berry, alcohol, wine - red wine notes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet with a long duration, grape, dried fruit, vanilla, sweet malt, sharp. Body is medium to full, texture is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic.

APPEARANCE: dark red/brown beer, small unstable off white head.
NOSE: sour, fruity, wood, caramel, some malts.
TASTE: sour, little fruity, sweet, caramel, nothing special.

(backlog ZBF 04/2013) from the DSB/Alv. tap train. An amber sour clocking in at 13%, a worthy closer for Day1. Morbidly sweet plum and rotten peach made interesting by a suave velvet yeast, producing gorgeous rich lateral esters and practically no burn whatsoever. Fest 2013. Deep orangey amber body. Low sand-colored head. Sourish vinous aroma with notes of dark dried fruits, currants and tart cherries. Medium to full body. Oily on the palate. Taste is nicely balanced dry/sweet, vinous and fruity. Alcohol warmth in lasting complex finish. Highly drinkable.
