750ml Bottle - Hazy dark golden colour. Fruity aroma with dried peach, fruity malt and apricot. Sweet and fruity taste with apricot, toffee, dried fruit and a moderate bitterness. caesar (7133) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - SEP 6, 2009
Bottle. Cloudy golden color, short head. Aroma is slight sour of mustard, candy sugar, red wine notes, malty. Slight sweet and sourish taste, very strange combination. But I must say the original Melchior was strange but nice, and for this one exactly the same. The barrel aged gives the beer that extra bite and body. Darkish murky amber with a slight white film top. Not the best looking beer from Alvinne. Should this matter? I care, I can’t help it, it’s all part of the experience. Aroma, jesus... this smells fantastic to me. Big wine notes, obviously but there is some desert wine and vintage port in there too. Whiffs of resinous wood and sharp but elegant alcohol too. A glorious smelling beer. The flavour can’t quite keep up but it’s still pretty bloody good. If you concentrate I can pick out all that I like about the aroma but they just seem to mash together in the mouth coming up with a result that is slightly lesser than the sum of its parts. Excellent dried fruit, rich caramel and more wine barrel in the finish. A rewarding experience and I’m glad I have some of this tucked away for another sample.
Bottle (75 cl), courtesy Nisse666. Hazy copper, medium off-white head. Alcoholic red berries aroma, with some wood. Medium bodied and smooth. Dry, and a bit acidic. altonbrownd (5897) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - SEP 3, 2015
Big bottle in Brussels. Hazy brown beer. Nose of strong malts, dark berries, sweet. Taste is oaky, with vanilla, sweet. Lots of things going on. Warm finish.
