Interesting beer, though not entirely successful. The calvados barrel comes through with mostly sharp, boozy notes. Some green apple is lurking in there, but it’s just a bit harsh and mostly mixes in with the general fruitiness of the beer, which may be from the barrel - hard to tell. Aroma is a bit medicinal. Mustard is also fairly subtle and I mostly picked it up in the taste. Some caramel malt, some spice. Fairly dry. Mouthfeel is a tad thin but still pretty good. Not a bad looking beer - a cloudy yellow with a fizzy, dying head. fiver29 (1036) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - NOV 27, 2010
Bottle courtesy of Alan. Thanks! Pours clear dark golden color with white head. Aroma is interesting. I can’t put my finger on the gritty part. A twang and a hit of booze. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is a sharp, pretty pungent note of booze and other flavors I’m just not that familiar with. Interesting. hopdog (12584) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 13, 2010
750ml bottle. Poured a medium golden color with a smaller sized head. Aromas of oaky woodiness, fruity, and yeasty. Tastes of more fruitiness/apples, yeast, some funkiness, spicy, lighter wood, and yeasty. Alcohol burn in the finish. michael-pollack (4959) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 6, 2010
750ml Bottle: Aroma of funk, alcohol, malt, wood, fruit, light apple, and slight vanilla. Poured a muddy amber/brown in color with a small, fizzy, off-white head that disappeared very quickly, but lasted around the edges. Cloudy. Lightly sparkling. Full of tiny particles throughout. Flavor is light to medium sweet, medicinal, and alcoholic. Tastes of malt, alcohol, medicine, wood, vanilla, mustard, and some funk. Medium body. Oily texture. Average to slightly lively carbonation. Alcohol, mustard, wood, and medicine finish. Very alcohol hot. Very disappointing. jtclockwork (16603) - , New Jersey, USA - OCT 5, 2010
Pours cloudy apricot with white head. Nose of mustard seed, oak, hops, Belgian yeast and apple. Taste of granny apple, oak, light bourbon, Belgian yeast and farmhouse funk.

Hazy copper-amber color, small mostly vanishing head. Aroma has lots of raisins, alcohol, cognac, riped apples. Medium-bodied. Alcoholic "bitterness", fruity with raisins and plums, hints of apples, lychee. Flavor is certainly similar to regular Melchior, but this is not so liquerish as it is and calvados barrel brings some extra sweetness. Heavy stuff with 11.5% ABV.
Cloudy, half-set honey with a fade from straw-gold to tiger orange all topped with a creamy crest - picture perfect. Lemony Belgian yeast aromas mingle with a bandy burn on the nose. Smooth and sleek on the tongue carrying puffy wafts of sweet and sour. A tiny detection of light hopping and a spirituous richness that sticks in the throat. An amazing beer. planky84 (3263) - Lee, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 25, 2010
Bottle from Utobeer market stall. Deep amber pour with a white head. Stewed apples, orange peel, some caramel and a splash of wet wood in the nose. Spices, nuts, baked apple and malt flavours. Good alcohol burn. Dry, slightly bitter finish. sayravai (4710) - Helsinki, FINLAND - AUG 4, 2010
(Bottled, 0.75l) Slightly hazy amber with a tiny, big-bubbly head. Mild, fruity aroma with apple and peach, a touch of citrusy hops, and some caramely maltiness. Lightly sour-grainy-malty, sweetish and very fruity flavor with apples, peaches, and oranges, very little bitterness. Alcohol quite well hidden. Medium to full body, flat CO2. The vanilla sourness in Mackmyra version was quite pleasant, but Calvados barrel seems just to add loads of fruitiness, pretty much reducing complexity of the original. Add the flat CO2, and you’ll get a pretty dull and lifeless, although pleasantly fruity and rounded brew. 5336 badlizard (5533) - Berkeley, California, USA - JUL 25, 2010
Clear golden honey color with a fizzy white head. Floral fruit and subtle cognac aroma. Slightly sticky citric palate. Tastes of pear and orange up front followed by mustard seed and ending with a sweet cognac finish.
