Bottle at pre ZBF at Alvinne 06-03-09 Pours murky golden with a thin white head. Aroma is woody of that there is no doubt and the Calvados ageing is noticeable, as I can just pick an appleyness. Its got quite a tanginess and its really quite interesting but the actual beer seems a little lost. Despite its best efforts to draw me in I never really got on with this beer, but nonetheless am pleased to see beers like this and was glad to have tried it. A7 A3 F5 P3 OV12 3.0

Hazy amber with no head. Sweet aroma with toasted malt, calvados, plums, alcohol and ripe fruits. Flavour was sweet with malty, caramel, fruits and alcohol notes. Finished sweet and boozy.

Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a hazy peach color with a small white ring of bubbles. The aroma is tangy, tart fruits, woody, white grapes, with some herbal notes. The flavor has a burst of tart fruits, herbal, woody before the alcohol heat takes over. Much of the finish was dominated by alcohol. Medium bodied. Interesting, but too hot.

Bottle at the Triple Rock Sour & BA Fest. Pours cloudy blonde with a nice beige head and a fruity aroma. There is a sweet malt flavor with some banana and a bitter oaky finish. The alcohol is well-hidden.

Bottle courtesy of Travlr. Red apple skin nose. Pours a cloudy, chunky from the yeast, bright, deep orange. Taste is like very good spiked unfiltered apple cider. Boozy, a bit syrupy on the palate. Very sweet with massive red apple character. It’s pretty damn good but if blind tasting I would put in under ice cider or something.

Very small, off-white head shortlived over hazy orange-ochre beer. Mix of creamy and sharp-alcoholic aromas. Breton pancakes, Tarte Tatin, Crêpes Suzette or Grand Opéra - very special associations. Definitely apples, alcohol and Calvados in the flavour. Bakery crust & caramel syrup, referring again to Tarte Tatin from the nose. Pinch of sweetness, but nowhere exaggerated. Mandarine peel retronasal, and there we have the crêpes association! MF/palate are rather sharp, the Calvados barrel obliging, but I definitely expect this to mellow out with a bit of bottle-aging. Not overly well-bodied for a beer of its ABV. Again a very special beer from the Alvinne Oak Collection. Glad to see a Belgian brewer resolutely heading in this direction, after Dubuisson, Smisje and Struise... Oh, and a good one for my 1700th Belgian rating!

Taster on tap at Churchkey. Hazy red orange amber color. Thin off-white head. Leaves great, thicker lace. Good light tart taste, light bit of heat, moderate bitter. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Light bit of alcohol warmth, but no burn or bite.. ABV is very well-hidden. Good baked apple, oak, light spice, some ginger. Great, complex, flavorful stuff.

1/IX/2012 75cl @ Tuinfeest Heeren van Liedekercke (Denderleeuw) - BB: n/a (2012-1003) Thanks to SecretSanta for the sample!

Clear orange beer, big creamy irregular off-white head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of bretta, lemony, sour apples, dusty, some alcohol, apple skin, wood. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish start, grapes, white wine, alcohol, bitter touch, green apple skin, wood, tannins. Aftertaste: bitter, wood, alcohol, biter hops, some more alcohol, tannins. The calvados is very noticeable on this one.
