Draft. Amber beer with a cream head. Light sweet malt and apple aroma with light oak. Calvados and malt flavor with light spice. Medium bodied. Calvados and spice linger with light malt.

gyllenbock (9096) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - SEP 25, 2011
Bottle. Cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma of yeast, orange, alcohol and with some notes of oak. The taste was about the same with a woody finish. Not that impressive to be honest, a little to unbalanced and with a surprisingly light body.

On tap at the Stone Bistro (a few months back) listed as Calvados/Cognac Barrel. Pours with a crystal clear golden hued body with minimal head (just a white ring). Some very strong legs. Aromas are of honey and floral notes, and a whole lot of alcohol. Extremely strong and musty, apple, calvados, low spirit but strong wood. Very caramelized, boozy, light sulfur, dry currants, dates, sticky and tangy. Flavors are cidery, dry, boozy and big. Sulfur (medium), calvados, dry apple, bitter tannins, fusel. Boozy, and a bit thin. A bit of a champagne like character, except with lower carbonation.

Bottled at pre-Zythos bash, Alvinne, March 2009. Very murky pale orange colour. Sort of rubbery appley aroma. Almost cider-like. Lots of quite sweet vanilla oak and spirity notes that were rather dominant and didn’t seem perfectly integrated into the beer. Some residual sweetness. Didn’t really do it for me - possibly a bit green. Maybe one of the few beers that I think I might have appreciated more with some bottle age.

Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 9, 2012
750mL bottle. Poured translucent, lighter orange with a white head that fizzled out really quickly.. kind of shiny. The aroma picked up more Calvados than anything else, with cognac and related dark fruit backing it up.. some oak and dry, peppery yeast in there as well.. this was nice, but it was almost all barrel. The flavor opened with tangy oak and sour/lightly-metallic boozage.. dark fruits, honey, and a bit of biscuity malt at the core.. lots more Calvados and peppery yeast on the long, dry, belly-warming finish.. just about an "8". Medium-plus bodied with low, but prickly carbonation on the palate.. the barrel stole the show, but it did provide some very interesting character.
