Dark brown colored, big light brown head. Coffee, chocolate, roastiness, mild licorice, alcohol and some disturbing glue tones in aroma. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is better than aroma with sweet chocolate, roasted coffee and licorice, aftertaste lasts with warm alcohol, coffee, mild bitterness from hops and syrupy sweetness. Beer5000 (6489) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - AUG 13, 2006
Bottle 330ml. Dark, dark brown body with a moderate tan head. Nice, pleasant aroma with some fruit, nut, coffee and alcohol. Flavor is malty, sweet, and moderate roasted. Aftertaste is long and sweet. A very good beer in a Belgium (free)style. Maybe a bit less sweetness and some more hops would make this a world classic. DrBeer (862) - Solna Stockholm, SWEDEN - JUL 30, 2006
Alcoholic aroma with note sof malt, chocolate and toast.
Coffee aflavor with notes of fruit and crisp bread. Sweet with firm bitterness. henrikb (1263) - Aarhus, DENMARK - MAY 31, 2006
Pours very dark brown with a golden edge, huge yellowish head disappering fast leaving thick laces; Very special nose, like no beer I have smelled before, a sweet grapefruity, orange freshness together with not all ripe cherry, very clear chestnut and hazelnut (fresh and dry), later buttery strawberry, it is deep, interesting and changes all the way thought the beer; Huge carbonation with a perfect sharpness in a very well balanced perfectly textured body; Into a medium long finish full of chestnut and buttery hazelnut (dried and fresh), a bit of sweetness, leaving your lips a bit sticky, combined with very little fresh acidity. The actual body of this beer is PERFECT, only the finish need a little bitterness to balance the syrupy (but not overwhelming) sweetness. lachesis (757) - St Idesbald, BELGIUM - APR 13, 2006
Very deep brown almost black colour. The beer has no head at all. Aroma is sweet fruitish with hints of coffee and burned malts. It also has a minty freshness and a touch of grape-sugar about it. Taste is jentle and smooth. It ha a big boost of alcohol that brings warmth and body to this fruity stout. The candi sugar is very present in the afthertaste. A good one but to me it laks a bit of bitterness (hops and burned stuff)
Cheers to you Podge !
I gonna re-try this one for sure, hopig the appearance will be more attactive.

(Bottled) Hazy, very dark reddish brown color with a small but lasting and lacy head. A very nice and complex aroma of roasted malt, salty licorice and dried fruit. A hint of alcohol, too. Sweetish, syrupy, burned-malty, perfumy flavor with a moderately bitter licorice finish. Close to full-bodied, syrupy palate with slightly foamy carbonation. Could be fuller in body and with less color malt and sugar, but overall an interesting and reasonably balanced not-so-bitter impy. anders37 (26641) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAR 25, 2006
Bottle. Very dark brown colour with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt with hints of licourice and chocolate. Sweet malty flavor with some hints of molasses, licourice and chocolate. Long sweet roasted aftertaste. jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - MAR 22, 2006
Bottled. Strong sweetened coffee aroma with cherries and blackberries. Black color, light brown fine head leaving really beautiful lace. Sweet, chocolat, very fruity (mainly blackberries), soft bitterness. Warming and even alcoholic long lasting finish. No brutal roasted coffee bitterness and way more fruity than the American brewers would do I agree with Joris. But what a beautiful non-Belgian beer from Belgium this is. Yummy! Bottle. Nearly opaque dark brown. Nose is licorice, dark fruit notes, roasted malt, and a hint of molasses. Taste is strong molasses, raisins, licorice, figs, prunes, and dark chocolate. Perhaps a bit of brown sugar as well. Body is medium-full and smooth with a fine carbonation feel about it. Finishes sweet with lots of chocolate notes, dark fruits, molasses, and roasted malts. Nice beer and one of the surprises at ZBF ’06! diabel (1714) - Aarschot, BELGIUM - MAR 5, 2006
Bottled at ZBF 2006, Sint-Niklaas, Belgium
Black body. Beautiful, caramelish head with an excellent lace. Strong aroma of mild coffee, honey and hints of cask wood. Moderately sweet initial flavour, moderately bitter finish. Medium to fully bodied. Soft carbonation. The flavour is dominated by coffee. At this moment at ZBF, I thought I needed a cup of coffeen but after this one, that wasn’t necessary anymore.
