Love the contrast in the dark mahogany body of the beer and the ivory-beige head.....head is very stable and frothy, uniform lace. Aroma is a dark roast, fresh berry, ripe vegetable. Interesting version of the style as it’s got a distinct belgian flair to it...some belgian yeast, spice, and zest but all fruity-fudge edge. Thin, slightly spritzy. Keg Half Pint at White Horse Belgian Beer Festival 2009, Parsons Green, London in Aug 2009 - And Bottle - Black with reddish tinge. Very malty; roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, toffee, candy sugar. Fruity; berries and dark fruits. Warming alcohol well masked. Very sweet. Smooth. Dry finish. Not as extreme as some other Imperials. Easy drinking Imperial. (2009-08)

330 ml bottle into a tulip glass. 2016 stamp on the cap.
Near black body with ruby edges. Decent tan head but only semi-durable and leaving limited lacing.
Aroma: sweet, floral, bready, faintly fruity and spicy.
Flavor: strong and complex. Bittersweet. Hints of chocolate, raisins, nutmeg and light coffee -- but not as appealing as that description suggests.
Feel: medium carbonation; full body. Light alcohol bite and warmth.

Pours the deepest mahogany into the glass with a funny diminished tan head that leaves little to trace lacing. The nose is of nice dark esters and dark berries, with just a hint of roasted chocolate. Flavors follow similarly, with sweet dark berries, dark stone fruits, roasted grains, bitter chocolates, and finish with a roasted bitter grain and some ABV heat. The full body on this, combined with the pseudo-juicy palate, semi-dry mouthfeel, cuts through hearty meals and also provides a superb aperitif or after-dinner sipper to complement said meals. Not too heavy, but substantial and complex for days. What an excellent example of a Belgian Impy Stout! Prost!

This is my 5,000th rate and something a bit special. On 6th Feb 2015 I was at a Belgian Beer Board website bottle exchange evening at De Bierboom (Brugge). Sat next to me was Podge, co-brewer of this beer. We have met at various Belgian locations over the years and even in Germany once, but never in the UK where we both live. Anyway he brings out three 33cl bottles of unlabelled prototypes of this beer, just with 1,2 and 3 stuck on them. Each bottle was this beer but with different hop profiles. Podge could not remember which hops were used in which bottle (1,2 or 3) and not even which prototype was eventually chosen for production. All I can say is they all tasted great, as Podge, myself and a friend called Tony tried to pick the best one of the three: we couldn’t agree and just enjoyed the moment while all around us bottles were being passed around as we sipped and appreciated Podge’s Imperial Stouts. Cola coloured with an inch of tan foam. Great lacing.
Nose of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt bitterness, with a hint of Brett.
Very bitter roasted malt and chocolate to start. Light coffee with a very dry almost tart taste in the finish.
Medium body and carbonation.
The cap mentions October 2016. A best after date? The label says it can be kept for 8 years or more.
