Brown pour some creamy head. Aroma leather, acid, hay , wheat, funk. Tastes big apple cider vinegar. Funk, not enough smooth yeastiness and a bit too much acidity. Slight BBQ flavor. Jerre (3823) - Waregem, BELGIUM - AUG 9, 2014

Het slechtste bier dat ik van Alvinne geprobeerd heb, echt een tegenvaller van formaat Alengrin (5722) - BELGIUM - JUL 18, 2014
One of the countless experiments from this brewery of permanent experimentation (hard to follow, if you ask me). Apparently not hopped, a feature of extreme rarity, at least in modern-day beer culture; the fact, however, that Alvinne seems to be trying to brew some fantasy historical ale here, can account for this, as hops were generalised in Flanders only in the 14th century. Foam virtually non-existent, some bubbles, but disappearing as quickly as they came during pouring; colour a hazy bronze. Aroma outrageously fruity (apricot, sour berries, cherry, green apple), malty with what appears to be a smoked accent, balsamic vinegar, bitter chocolate, sour cream, gentle spices; taste equally fruity with a nutty and at times somewhat woody maltiness, desiccating sourishness leading to a long, dry finish. Didn’t know what to think of this beer, and although I am inclined to welcome anything out of the ordinary for the sake of experiment alone, they didn’t succeed in balancing a sour beer reminiscent of ’oud bruin’ without the hops, in my view. Sorry Glenn!

0.33l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This is a deep dark brown one with a small big bubbly kinda brown sidesticking and islandy top. Not to extreme on the aroma but I get a spicy burned nutmeg thing here and a trace of something almost grassy sour. The aroma opens up after a while in the glass and I get tones of licorice and dark malts. Really sharp acidic lime sourness in the taste. It has a soft carbonation level and a light oily mouthfeel. Sour red dark currants, dark malts, some red wine vinegar and it’s leaving a quite dry tongue. Fair stuff. 08.06.2013

Flaske 0,33l på Vertshuset Skarven 29 Mai 14. Ekstremt dyp rødbrun. Lavt skum langs glasset. Syrlig fruktaroma. Smaken sammensatt av ulik frukt. Stikkelsbær. Beholder det syrlige preget og avslutter litt tørt. Ekstremt mye bunnfall. vtafro (7444) - Wayne, New Jersey, USA - MAY 22, 2014

Bottle from Luekens in Oldsmar. Deep brown pour with a khaki head. Aroma of light vinegar and tart with a sugary cola vibe. Tastes are along those lines with a fairly sharp tartness up front. Little cherry, lots of vinegar, oak. Quick finish. Not a lot of depth, but good at what it does. daniele (9668) - ITALY - MAY 1, 2014
