On tap at BeerTemple. Clear deep reddish brown pour with thin off white head. Aroma of tart cherries, light acetic notes, quite fruity. Taste is very sour, cherries, fruity sourness, not too acetic, very little sweetness however, none of the typical brown sugar/malty flavors. Palate is bone dry, with thin but prickly carbonation. Nice.

@ Party Source / Bellvue KY Cloudy dark brown a hint of a head renewing itself because of fizz rising from the bottom, no lace. Aroma is pungent dark dried fruit; taste is the same, only more - dark malt punched by sour astringent fruit that lingers for quite awhile in the finish. A real example of an Oud Bruin, but it will be an acquired taste for many.

Bottle pours a hazy orange brown with a light tan head, fizzy. The aroma is very pungent, over fermented. The taste is full bodied and very sour, leaves a thick taste in your mouth.

Bottle. Pours hazy maroon with rapidly settling, coarse tan head. No lacing. Aroma is tart/acidic, plum, cherry, berry, grape. Taste is very fruity, cherry, cranberry, fruit leather, mildly vinous, with a moderately tart finish. Enjoyable but exceptionally fruity. Tarter as it warms. Moderate carbonation, light body, juicy texture and astringent finish.

11.2oz shorty grenade Belgian bottle. Burgundy brown blood body. No real head, just some movie there soda bubbles coming and going...certainly has carbonation as it gushed out of the bottle a few seconds after I opened it.. I was expecting a mellow, malty Oud Bruin, this is anything but. Mouth puckering sourness, like a Rodenbach Grand Cru with some bonus sour yeasts thrown in. Sour red wine, faint port chocolate cherry in the background. Intense, a very memorable beer. Great stuff.

Sampled from 0,33 l bottle. Unclear, dark reddish brown. Low beige head. Dry vinous acidic-sour aroma with red berries, wood, and citrus zest. Light-bodied. Taste is bone dry and sour-acidic. Tart berries, rhubarb, lemon peel and grape-skin. Minimal malt backbone. Faint wood. Short, dry and sour-acidic aftertaste.

The beer pours with a fierce, hissing carbonation that forms a head of medium sized, off-white bubbles that quickly fizzles into nothing, leaving a clean and calm top of the beer without any head. Carbonation bubbles continue to tear to the top of the glass however, and appear reminiscent of highly carbonated soda bubbles. In color, the beer is a deep ruby brown, almost maroon, with a distinct ruby glow in the light. The beer’s body is slightly viscous with a darkness that makes it opaque, though the beer appears clean of any particles or cloudiness. On the nose, the beer smells of green apples, malt vinegar, cherry fruit leather, and fresh strawberry jam. Rich funky scents cover the nose from this beer, blending with the light malt character to bring a touch of plum, raisins, and a soft trace of toffee. Touches of sherry coincide with the rich smell of strawberry jam, which is quite bizarre, yet inviting. On the tongue, the beer tastes tart with lactic and malic acidity, traces of malty sweetness run across the tongue, and a very faint touch of roasted bitters can be sensed in the finish. Balance is slightly tart, but nice and not assaulting on the tongue. Fruit esters are strong and complex. In flavor, the beer begins as tart green apple, then cherry pie, then cherry fruit leather. Malt vinegar does work its way into the flavor along with sherry-like notes in the mid-palate. Just as the beer hits the back of the tongue, a sweet and sour sauce flavor can be sensed along with some of the strawberry jam from the nose. On the finish, the beer softens its tartness enough to bring soft coffee, caramel roast, and a touch of barnyard funk on the tongue alongside the fruit esters, providing a beautiful finish that lasts for quite a while on the tongue. In the mouth, the beer feels medium bodied with a middling carbonation that carries a bit of a prickle and a touch of astringency. Mouthfeel is smooth, and after the beer leaves, the mouth is left wet and gently puckering. Overall, I really like this Oud Bruin. This beer has a great funky character, a nice balance, and finishes with a great malt presence that really pulls together the beer and provides for a fascinating sip. I would love to pair this beer with richer meals to see how the acidity and malt play with food. This is a great beer with perfect complexity for the style.

Bottle poured a deep brown hue w/ a big fizzy brown quickly and fully diminishing head. Bold wine barrel aroma. Initial flavor is light sweet w/ a bold sour finish. Tastes are red wine, lemon citrus, and musk. Bold bodied and tart.

Tasted on 11/14/13 from a capped, squat 330mL bottle purchased at Woodland Wine Merchant. Pours very dark brown with a very thick, slow building beige head that slowly recedes to no lace whatsoever. The nose is sweetish caramel malt with plenty of brown sugar, red wine vinegar, a touch of bread, some funk, and lemon acidity. The flavor is more aggressively sour with the lemon and red wine vinegar, moving to a more roasted, dark caramel and bread than on the nose. The body is fairly light with some tannic structure, lively, stinging carbonation, and a long tart, sour, and lightly toasted finish.
