English: It is said that that the first Europeans to experience the impact of a falling coconut were a group of Portuguese sailors. Under the command of Duarte Barbosa, captain of the Victoria on a voyage more than 500 years ago, a landing party was sent to investigate a small coral island in what is thought to be the present day Maldives. The crewmen however got utterly lost on the Island and decided to rest under an unknown palm tree. Sliding into an exhausted sleep they were quickly woken by what they first thought to be giant droppings from the infamous Brown Boobies, a giant seabird known to be a constant nuisance to sailors when out of a sudden they would fall from the sky in a Stuka-like attack fashion. Relieved they were, the poor sailors, when they realized they were under no booby attack, but simply the victims of falling coconuts. And ever since that day coconuts have been a very popular ingredient in foods as diverse as chocolate bars and Imperial Porters. Actually it’s on that very Maldive island the first Coconut Porter is said to have been brewed. And that dear friends is a true story.

Bottle. Huge creamy beige head that really lasted. Excellent lacing. Pitch black. Aroma of smooth roasted malt, hint of coffee, liquorice, caramel, dried fruit and coconuts. Over the palate came hint of coffee, liquorice and a touch of smoke as well. Medium body. Moderated thick texture. Heavy sweet and bitter well balanced flavor. Lingering liquorice and coconute roasted malty finish. NICE BOYZZZ

bottle. pitch dark, small bubbly brown head.
Aroma of roasted malts and coconut. Flavor of roasted malts and even more coconut. Malts and coconut combine and make a flavor that resembles those licorice flat squares with two whites and a licorice part in the middel. I don't like those. Nothing wrong with the beer, is great, but it's too candy-like for me. Even though it is in fact not very sweet at all. Never liked sweet coconut, and this is too much in that directon for me. I'll probably rate this way lover than average.

Bottled 500ml. -from Beergium. Almost black coloured, medium sized brown head, mild coconut in the nose. Light roasted malt, chocolate, coconut, mild spicy and traces of vanilla and alcohol with roasty finish. Pleasant one.

Copenhagen 14/10 2017. 50 cl bottle from Meny. Some strange bird wielding coconuts charging what I suppose is some poor Portuguese sailors. Kind of cumbersome way to convey that you added Coconut to your Porter. But it works. Pours opaque black with small beige head. Settles as thin layer of foam accurately covering the surface of the beer. Aroma is intense and rich. Dark chocolate, strong bitter licorice, roastiness and hints of vanilla. Light carbonation and very thick and oily palate. Flavor lives up to the aroma. Fat and rich. Medium sweet with slightly stronger bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with vanilla - and some Coconut. Good one.

[email protected], Copenhagen (06/08/2017) - pours black with a tan head. Roasted and sweet malty with opulent chocolate, caramel and toffee sweetness, hoppy backing, coffee prevalence, vanilla and coconut coalesce into the finish.

Aroma: 7
Medium aroma of malts, caramel, vanilla, coconut, chocolate, roasted malts and coffee.

Appearance: 5
Opaque black beer with a slight brown head.

Taste/Palate: 8/4
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, vanilla, coconut and chocolate; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and coffee.

Overall: 16
This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Not a lot of coconut, but that might be because this beer is very roasted. Perfect appearance and a great palate as well, but the aroma coule have been stronger.

sebletitje (10421) - Enghien, BELGIUM - AUG 19, 2017
Bouteille 50cl.
