COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bitterhed: 80+ IBU

English: With this special brew, Batch One, we dared to experiment with combining our usual devotion to a solid malt profile with the addition of American aroma hops. Batch One is an American-inspired Ale characterized by its vast, full body and generous use of hops. In the glass, it has a reddish-brown colour with a coppery glow, and a beige-coloured head leaves a nice lacing behind. For this brew we have chosen to only use the noble Simcoe hop, both for boiling and the following dry-hopping. The hops give the beer its fresh citrus-like character and impart a solid bitterness to balance the sweet caramel malt.

Bottle (500 ml). 1+ year old. Hazy amber with a small off-white head and little lacing. Aroma is of malt, caramel, spices, boozy notes, light fruity notes... theres also a lot of resinous hops, they are fainted but still there. Taste is moderately sweet with caramel, malt, alcohol, fruits, wood, spices, resinous notes and light bitterness. Warming alcohol and spices. Medium body. Low to moderate carbonation. Good Barley Wine. Not extremely complex and a bit hot, but well balanced. Malty, but not overly sweet. Drinkable for the style.

On tap at Henrik, Bergen. The colour is hazy dark reddish amber with a creamy light beige medium head. Sweet aroma of fruity hops, peach and berries. More fruity hops in the flavour with some grapefruit. Still pretty sweet. Has a slick and rich mouth feel, and a medium bitterness. Is a balanced and nice ale.

Pours a hazy amber-brown with a thick off white head. This one is definitly English style with a heavy malt aroma, a little age, & some savory spice components. Maybe a little yeast, too. Taste is milk chocolate malts that really come out in the mid palate. Theres a peppery bite throughout and a bitter finish. This one is very comfortable.

Sample at the Aficionados "Hidden Gems" beer tasting on 05/24/2013: Pours a reddish-amber color with a medium thick creamy light beige head that diminishes slowly. Sticky rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, nutmeg and citrus. Medium to full body with flavors of bready malt, ripe fruit, spice and resiny hops. The finish is fruity and malty. Above average overall.

550 ml bottle purchased @ Julios Liquors back in December 2012. Dark muddy red/ brown color. Aroma is sweet and very malty with noticeable Simcoe pine. Taste was actually much like the nose, tons of caramel malt and a sharp hop edge created from the Simcoe. Strong notes of pine with a resinous kick of bitterness. Taste is medium to full bodied, balanced carbonation. I feel the hops really dominated the malt and the resin is a bit harsh. Had I let it get more age, perhaps the hops to malt ratio would balance better. Right now a bit harsh.

Thin head of varying sized bubbles that does not last long. Strong caramel and cherry aroma with some brown sugar, roasted grains and some earthy aromas. Color is a dark copper brown. Rather strong bitterness and bite to this brew. Dried flowers, straw, tea leaves, piney hops, dry toasted malts and some more brown sugar. Body is much thinner than I expected, pretty much too thin as it doesnt really have any malt body to offet the alcohol and bitterness. Noticable alcohol presence and warming. Little astringent palate which leaves a dry and chalky mouthfeel. Finishes hot and dry. Ok brew but not digging this too much.
