3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from AJ’s Arcadia. I’d classify this more of a barleywine style. Good hoppy, caramely, sweet nose. Tastes similarly- sweet, syrupy malts balanced with a big, citrusy, hop kick. As good as any American strong or barleywine here in the states, but lacking in complexity. Good overall, though.
Bottle shared with Tmoney99 and shigadeyo years ago from backlog notes. Pours a hazy amber/copper color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, dark fruit, raisins, mild citrus notes, mild to moderate bitterness to the finish, good. glennmastrange (2899) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JAN 24, 2017
Bottle. Moderate malt notes of roasted grain, nutty and cookie, light to moderate cooked orange peel for the hops, dough and leather for the yeast, with toffee, date and canned cherries in the background. Head is small to average, frothy, light beige, with excellent lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky medium reddish brown. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and slightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily, with a soft carbonation and a lightly alcoholic and tangy finish. Maybe a bit out of balance, but this is a tasty and satisfying Barley Wine. onceblind (10330) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 3, 2017
Deep shlifhtly cloudy amber/copper with a thin light tan cap. Thin nose that belies the complexity of the flavor but nonetheless has a bit of cherry and toffee bready tones. Big warm flavor that has a little earthy bready tones, light date and light oak, and a slight bitter citrus undertone. whiskeyrocks (90) - Lindenhurst, Illinois, USA - DEC 18, 2015
Not a barley wine ale drinker, but this was amazing. Slightly hoppy and barely sweet. altonbrownd (5897) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - OCT 11, 2015
4/13/2010 2:55:54 PM Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Nice amber body with sticky, fast-rising head. Malty, chocolate nose. Really prickly body with plenty of tar, dark oil and molasses. Quite strong and rich. Very enjoyable.

A gusher. Murky cloud iced tea amber body, white foamy head, some lacing. Strong, sharp almost malty, sweet grain and dried fruit aroma. Taste is sweet, nutty, and malty, with only the faintest hint of hops in the aftertaste. From the description, I assume this was supposed to be more bitter. Maybe the bottle wasn’t fresh. I also found the mouthfeel a touch too frothy, so maybe that was distracting from the bitterness, as well. I’m not sure. As is, it’s more like a regular barley wine, which is nice, but not the hoppy one as described. JPDIPSO (6262) - Wauwatosa, USA - JUN 2, 2015
Clear umber color with a taller, fairly lasting, deep ecru colored head. Lightly caramelized malt, figs, dates, banana peels and grapefruit pith in the aroma. Quite “zippy” in feel for a barleywine. Sweet malt flavor in the front. Lighter fruit follow, with some mixed berries. Bitterness kicks in mid-swallow along with the alcohol. I’m finding the finish, and especially the linger very hard to slog through. Very bitter and quite “harsh” (for lack of vernacular). While the next sip helps assuage the coarseness, I have a hard time relaxing with this one; which is not a good thing for a brew of this style. I pour the rest of the bottle, hoping the lees reduce the rough edges. Only a slight reduction of “harshness”. A promising start, but the follow through was far to abrasive. 2/10 CapFlu (5129) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 30, 2015
Pours a thin white frothy head atop a toasted malt and boozy. Flavour is somewhat bitter from the hoppy front with a fig front. Okay. PorterPounder (8231) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAY 5, 2015
Tallahassee, Fl - Beer Stop - 500 ml bottle - label looks like it was made in a middle school Graphic Arts Class. Murky, dark orange/amber pour, light off-white head that clings to the edge of the glass, very light lacing. Aroma has some orange marmalade accents, some cotton candy sweetness, a touch of booziness. Flavor is full bodied but not focused, some dates and raisins, brown sugar, baked brown bread, a touch of anise seed. Mouthfeel is thick and full. Decent. mverity (294) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 5, 2015
It was a while back when I tried this beer and made basic notes on my phone. I remember it being pretty good but over hopped. Bitter earth, higher alcohol burn than I’d have liked.
