A Rye Braggot

English: One great thing about the craft beer world is how erratic it can be. To be completely honest, until just recently we had never even heard of Hermit Thrush Brewery – simply pronouncing their name proved a major challenge for most of us! But one day – out of the blue – we received an email from Joan Bulzacchelli and Victoria Banerjee from the brewing crew at Hermit Thrush, asking if they could join in on a brewing day at Amager since they were travelling Europe – half in private, half to visit breweries. As we only have the deepest respect for Vermont breweries we suggested turning the brewing day into an actual collaboration day, and a recipe was developed via email with one of the brewery’s masterminds Christophe Gagne. Bees For My Honey is a tribute to a product that is local to both breweries, a wonderful product that we both hold in high regard: honey! And it’s also a tribute to those wonderful buzzing little aviators called the honey bees. A friendly lil creature we have been taking for granted for way too long, only to realize that they seem to be abandoning us in recent years. We can’t blame them, but when honey becomes a scarce product, it may be too late to invite them back, because they just may have found a safer haven without pesticides and pollution. Save the bees – we need ‘em!!

Suave amargo final algo seco. Cuerpo medio algo espumoso y cierta densidad. Buena sensación alcohólica. Buena.

Flaske. Duft af visse stærke belgiske øl. Ikke så vild med den. Udseendet er orange uklart. Smagen er bedre med et godt bid. Alkoholen er skjult. Ok men duften trækker ned.

From Miguel. In Teku glass. Playing A Foretold Affair. Soft honey notes and a bit high carbonation. Not unpleasant but bit boring, lacking punch, with nothing to make me want to repeat

500ml bottle (Uba ja Humal, Tallinn (5-:3:5-:3:10=2.6--)
Hazy pale orange, curiously pale compared with previous braggots I’ve had, makes me wonder what the malt bill was. On pouring has a dirty homebrewy yeastiness - bakers’ yeast - in the aroma, quite off-putting. In the glass it’s still yeasty, but more of a belgian yeast. Sour taste, soapy hops, yeasty, bitter. Light palate, crisp carbonation, some hoppy bite. Bitter herbal hop finish, perfumey and grassy. Messy brew, dirty, the only positive thing I can say about it is that the alcohol does seem to be covered.

Skinnyviking (9851) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 11, 2017
50 cl. bottle at home. High fluffy white long lasting head. Hazy dark amber body. Sweet and hard to describe mild fruity aroma. Acidic sweet oranges honey dominated flavor with a nice dry and astonishingly mild but fair hops bitterness. High carbonation. Long dry finish.
