Danish: En dag i maj 2012 fik Amager Bryghus besøg av en af USAs mest karismatiske bryggere, Fred Karm fra bryggeriet Hoppin’ Frog i Akron, Ohio. Fred var på rundrejse i Europa og lagde vejen forbi for at gæstebrygge hos os. Og resultatet av denne hyggelige og givende dag i godt amerikansk selskab, finder du i denne flaske. "Frog Hops To Amager" er en lidt sjælden type, nemlig en Imperial Wheat Stout, brygget på hele 8 forskjellige malte, hvoraf de to er af hvedetypen. Og så ville det jo ikke være os,, hvis ikke den var humlet kraftigt, så vi har givet øllet en solid omgang Tomahawk og Chinook. du vil finde en kraftig og humlearomatisk øl, som måske er lidt blødere og knap så tung som andre Imperial Stouts. Håber du må nyde resultatet af dette transatlantiske samarbejde!

English: One day in May 2012, Amager Bryghus had a visit from one of America’s most charismatic brewers: Fred Karm from Hoppin’ Frog in Akron, Ohio. Fred was on tour in Europe and came by to guest brew with us. The result of this pleasant and rewarding day was Frog Hops to Amager. Frog Hops to Amager is a somewhat rare type, namely an Imperial Wheat Stout, brewed with eight different malts, two of which are wheat. And then it would not do for us if it was not hopped strongly so we gave the beer a solid game of Tomahawk and Chinook. You will find an intense and aromatic hopping beer, which is perhaps a little softer and not so heavy as other Imperial Stouts. Hope you can enjoy the results of this transatlantic cooperation!

Digging some oldies from the cellar I stumbled across this. It felt like a good time to pare down the Hoppin' Frog backlog so as soon as things calmed down around the house I grabbed my favorite glass to discover what happens when two continents collide in one big imperial stout.
Aroma / Appearance - The oily black base is almost exactly what you would expect from the style - especially one with Hoppin' Frog's genes inside it. As the dense mocha head slowly melts it releases a mixture of cocoa, smoke, and ash. There's no subtlety here - you know what you are getting without a single sip.

Flavor / Palate - Roasted malts, dry peat, and rich chocolate slowly create layers of oily deposits around the mouth. Chewy cheesecake bites crawl through that to a mild bitter finish. This falls just short of the brilliance of BORIS but is otherwise everything you would expect from the parties involved. I wish I'd opened it sooner.

On tap at the Mellow Mushroom - Coralville. Black appearance with a light brown head. Aroma of roasted grain, cocoa, chocolate malt, mild earth and light coffee. Similar flavor, adding mild bitterness and mild sweetness with a lingering roasted malt finish. Nice.

Bottle @ home. Cellared for three years until best before date. It's black with th a medium beige head. Aroma has loads of dusty hops, cocoa, licorice, prunes, roasted malts, coffee. Taste is very bitter with roasted malts, dark chocolate, licorice, red fruits, prunes, lemon zes. Bitter almost sour finish. Medium body with short to average duration.

On tap at the Griffon Gastropub. Very bitter, and then very coconut from barreling. Some hops in the finish. Not a great drinker.

Svesse (9222) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - MAY 1, 2017
(Bottle) Pitch black colour with frothy, beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, black rye bread, roasted nuts, prunes, blackberries, a touch of treacle and hints of smoke. Malty, roasted taste with dark chocolate, black rye bread, liquorice, black coffee, prunes, treacle, tobacco and a balanced cacao bitterness in a roasty and slightly vinous finish. More than medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Quite powerful and a bit one-dimensional, but really tasty. Very nice.

Panzuriel (2476) - Westerville, Ohio, USA - JAN 20, 2017
Appearance: Rich Inky Brown. Half a finger of mocha bubbles. Nose: Deeply roasted malt, hints of cocoa. Definite hop presence. Touch of pine Taste: Chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted malt, hints of pine. Body: Fuller with satiny mouthfeel. Parting thoughts: A very chocolate stout. The hops are definitely something that sets this apart. They blend well with the chocolate bitters.

A bit too much Amager, not enough Hoppin’ Frog. A mix between the hop and the malt makes me wonder if it’s a Black IPA, Stout or Imperial stout I’m drinking. Aroma is nice with lot of complexity but falls short on taste/finish.

Smells of roasted malts with a slight winey boozy scent at the end. Super rich black color with no head. Really nice smooth roasted malts flavor with slight wine taste with wood like dry finish. Full body with exreamly light carbonation. Love the feel of the beer but not a fan of that winey taste not my thing. But still not a bad brew.

On bottle. Pitch black color, good brownish foam. HIgh aroma intensity; cocoa, hops, choclate, malt, dark toffee and some leather. Full body & complexity. Good bitterness and balance. Very enjoyable

Shared 16.9 oz. bottle. Pours brown-black with a dark tan head. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate, and licorice with coffee notes. Flavor is similar to the nose and quite rich. There is a good amount of hops bitterness, but it doesn’t clash with roasted/chocolate/coffee flavors and adds a nice extra dimension. Medium-bodied. Could probably be classified as a stout. Excellent.
