Bottle, bought @ Systembolaget, Hyltebruk. Pours deep opaque black with a big, lovely, staying, creamy, beige head. Aroma has the trademark chocolate nuttiness of Hr Frederiksen and some mild alcoholic notes. Mild berries, light oak, soft fruitiness. Medium to low carbonation, fine creamy and somehow also fairly light mouthfeel. Flavour is much more coherent. Vinious and the warming as expected, chocolate, coffee, hazelnuts. Quite mild oak in pthe far finish. Good firm tannic bite. By far the superior oak aging of Hr Frederiksen. hopscotch (11177) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 13, 2012
Bottle... Pours pitch black with a small, tight, khaki head. The woody, chocolaty bouquet also offers mild notes of oloroso sherry and lactic acid . Full-bodied and creamy with modest carbonation. The flavor is an intermingling of unsweetened chocolate, hearty red wine and toasted oak. Moderately bitter, chocolaty finish. Bottle courtesy of Plovmand!

Aroma: Smelling of toast, dark roasted coffee beans, sour red fruits and dark chocolate.GT (10001) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 23, 2012
Appearance: A black brown brew, a tan head that leaves good lacing, good curtains.
Taste: A sweet dark bread taste, toast, red dried fruits, dark espresso and chocolate. Sour wood.
Palate: Little carbonation, smooth, thick and sticky, a big body.
Overall: Still not a bad stout, but the wine cask does not improve it.
Note: Bottle 250 ml (Batch 300). Reviewed 2012-08-06.
330mL thanks to anders37 at Woodshop 7. Muddy brune pour. Low carbonation. Weak bubbles. Nose is sweeter tomato paste and red bell pepper. Sweet and savory. Dark chocolate mole and hot pepper come through as it decants. Taste is weaker, tannic, dry, oaky, a bit bland, powdery. Lemon tea and oak through the finish. Bottle: Thanks Papsø:
Small to medium cherry brown head, which disappears very slow and leaves a little open lacing on top of a black colored beer.
Smell subtle red wine, wood and yeasty imperial stout notes. Very subtle, very smooth. There are also some slight hints of rose, a hint of red fruit like berries and cherries, some light tar, a hint of bbq smoke kind of notes and some roasted burned barley malts, wood and herbs.
Taste is very nice, toffee, caramel, chocolate, hopjes vla, some yeasty wood notes, some hints of red fruit in smoked barrels, some smokes hay, light creamy, some nice but dry roasted malts, wood, herbs and than it turns into a not somgood aftertaste.
The beer and it’s taste are interesting, the aftertaste seems to be something else.
The aftertaste is both sweet and bitter with a more bitter and intense dry coal red wine touch. The irritating nasty ish malts and the dry wood/oak notes make it a beer with a different, dry and naaty bitter aftertaste with nothing of the body left as it was previous in the taste.
Low carbo, soft close to silky ish mouthfeel, full body and a creamy texture.
There seems to be something lacking a bit in this beers body... As well as some nasty malts and nasty dry wood tones in the aftertaste.. The rest is absolutely decent. Salamanteri (3) - Rovaniemi, FINLAND - JUL 19, 2012 does not count
UPDATED: JUL 20, 2012 (PE 2022) Musta olut pienellä ruskealla vaahdolla. Suutuntuma on reilun keskitäyteläinen, maku huomioon ottaen melko liru. Tuoksultansa hieno, mutta maultansa turhan terävä.
Great nose, but taste way too sharp. ClubGonzo (5685) - Bergen, NORWAY - JUL 14, 2012
Bottle from Systembolaget in Nordstan, Gothenburg. Pours a thick black body with a medium off-white head. Aroma is simply astonishing: strong red wine tones with woody vanilla, licorice, leather and hints of dark chocolate and coffee. The red wine aroma is a killer match for the rest, and this is one of those beers I’m almost reluctant to go into as I might as well sit and sniff it instead. Then again, it’s meant for drinking so down it goes. :-) Roasty chocolate first, then strong red wine tannins which are tasty but almost unbalanced. In addition, the barrel aging gives off strong woody notes with oaky hints of vanilla and something resembling...tomatoes? My mind is boggling with this brew! :-P Sharp tannins and coffee appears again, before a silky smooth leathery finish takes it all home. Smooth palate, medium carbonation. A very nice and interesting beer from Amager, definitely worth acquiring.
