Dark beer with ruby glints when held against the light. Huge foamy tan head. It took a while to coax the beer into the glass. Green hop and puffed grain nose. Very carbonated. Dark wet grains, chocolate ripe fruit, brown sugar, puffed wheat and burnt toast in the finish. Maris (1612) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAY 12, 2014
From a 500ml bottle on 12/5/2014 (batch number 606, BB 05/2014). Pours close to black with a big tan head. The aroma is a combo of roasted malt and fruity hops. Take a sip and you get some sweet caramel and toffee, stone fruit, followed by big firm bitterness which alternates between resin and grapefruit and roasty/burnt/coffee notes. The body is medium and it’s somewhat over carbed, which is the only real knock. A very tasty black IPA which could use just a few less bubbles. _angst_ (5009) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - APR 30, 2014
Bottle courtesy of AndySnow IIRC. Pours reddish blackish with a huge frothy beige head that slowly dissipates while leaving some soapy trace on the glass. Smell is malty and tiny fruity with roasted malts, sweetened dark roast coffee, burnt cookies, pine needles, resinous wood, grapefruit juice, bitter chocolate and orange zest. Taste is slightly sweet, bitter and malty with roasted malts, burnt cookies, dark roast coffee, grapefruit juice, ripe tropical fruits, orange zest, pine needles, resinous wood, bitter chocolate and ash. Mouthfeel is round, soft, astringent and medium bodied. Finish is bitter with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, pine needles, resinous wood, grapefruit rinds and unripe tropical fruits. erickok (6036) - Leuven, BELGIUM - APR 18, 2014
Fresh hop aroma mixed with dark roasted malts. Resin, grapefruit and quite fresh. I love Black IPA aromas. Taste is nice, but expected a bit fuller palate and with more outspoken roasted flavours. (50cl bottle from Beer City) freretoc (1935) - Besançon, FRANCE - APR 7, 2014

Bottle, Beer Moth, Manchester. Dark brown pour with a middling tan head. Aroma was roasted malt, chocolate and some hop. Similar, sweetish flavour with quite lively carbonation. Dryish bitter finish. A bit on the thin side but ok. gunnfryd (15503) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - MAR 17, 2014

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein sehr dunkelbraunes Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, schokoladig, Kaffee, hopfig bitter. Geschmack röstmalzig, bittere Schokolade, Kaffee, fruchtig herb, bitter. maneliquor (3514) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAR 9, 2014
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours very dark brown with a thick beige head. Nose is big grass and mocha notes - loads of robust roast, coffee and dry cocoa. Taste is mocha driven but with a bitter espresso feel and bakers cocoa - nice grapefruit and grass to it to follow. Very balanced stuff and it works well. Tasty drop
