English: ”I rate – therefore I am”. These very few words were for many years the simple governing rule for Hr. Papsø to live by. For years he would seek out exotic and faraway places like Onetaka, Windischeschenbach, San Diego – yes even Køge – in his constant quest for the holy grail: that perfect beer. What started as a way of spending time while being romatically involved with a certain girl at a youth hostel in Newcastle, NSW turned into a 25 year long passion of rating every beer he encountered. With his faithful companinon – Mr. Pink – and his set of gold coated tasting thimbles always ready for action Hr. Papsø has now reached 25.000 ratings on the world’s most renowned beer rating portal And that for sure calls for a beer to celebrate. “Hr. Papsø In Black” is such a beer combining three of the things Hr. Papsø really loves in a beer: that cool darkness, a fresh and crisp dryhopping and high drinkability. Be calm – be cool. Enjoy.

Bottle. A huge, creamy, light beige head leaves lacings. Reddish brown body, lightly unclear. The aroma is a bit weak I think, faintly roasted and with the hops dominating. Citrus peel and pine cones. The flavor is pretty much the same, with a nice bitterness, both of the hoppy and the roasted malt kind. Full-bodied and a tad too much carbonation. Lasting finish with roasted malts and bitterness. A decent one, nothing more. 131231

Bottle from Carlisle cellabrations. Pours black with a massive light tan head. Nose shows, roasted malts, hint of chocolate and pine hops. Taste is lightly roasted/smokey malts, pine and citrus hops and a slight lingering bitterness. Amazing drinkability goes down very easily. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

from Au Trappiste, Bern - hazy dark brown beer under a solid foamy beige head; a solid hoppiness where licorice dominates, black cherries and mint; medium-bodied, assertive and solidly bitter; very dry and long bitter hoppy finish with more notes of prunes and licorice - straightforward, fresh and good

Hugely hoppy which i tend to like but this is a little bit out of balance with the rest of the beer. Jam, licorice and tropical fruits at the end but all underdone by the sheer power of the hops. Good, v.good in fact just a touch out of kilter.

Firm brown with a decent film tan fur of a head. Rich red berry and charred hops. Easy going crisp, tight hoppy and wee bit dry pithy. Firmly sweet tight carbonation, foamy ice cream coke float finish. Got better as it got warmer/sedimentiery.

Bottle, BeerMoth, November Tasting.
