Opaque black beer, good tan head. Softish semi dry palate. Rich malt - silky and barleywine like. Small amounts of roast and licorice. Nicely joined up red berry fruits from the Port Barrel, integrated very well indeed. Trace of hops before the semi dry finish. Lovely!
Bottle 37,5 cl. Pours pitch black as a winters night with a thick and creamy HUGE beige head leaving quite some lacework. The nose is surprisingly subtle, the roast is there but it’s rounded by the port barrel that smoothen things out and leaves mainly...vanilla! Medium-bodied with a very soft and smooth mouthfeel, subtle roast, very chocolatey and extremely minerally - perhaps even salty. Some late malt bitterness slowly builds op. Nice alright, but it doesn’t REALLY have all that much Port character. 101211 Leighton (21853) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 8, 2014
Bottle at RBWG Asheville Grand Tasting. Pours deep brown with a frothy beige head. Odd nose, some rubber, burnt cocoa, char. Light to medium sweet flavor with dominant barrel character, inky twang, bitter cocoa. Full bodied, oily, with fine carbonation. Warming finish with whiskey, wet wood, dark bread, mild earthy bitterness. So so. Rasmus40 (21471) - Beder, Aarhus, DENMARK - AUG 15, 2012
