Alengrin (5639) - BELGIUM - JUN 4, 2016
Collab of Amager and Port Brewing, 50 cl bottle from De Caigny. Thick, moussy, ’membranously’ lacing, snow white head adorning a peachy golden blonde beer, lightly hazy with lively sparkling. Dank aroma of pine resin, moldy grapefruit, biscuit, marihuana, toasted onion, pink pepper, fermenting hay, dried tropical flowers, caramel, salted tomato, gherkin, touch of iron. Clean fruity onset, vaguely dried apricot-like sweetish with a somewhat less vaguely sourish touch, medium carbo, slick and oily mouthfeel becoming just a tiny bit metallic in the middle; grainy and nicely biscuity maltiness provides enough background for a long, resinous hop bitter ending, in which a whole array of pleasant things unfold: retronasal aromas of dried grapefruit peel, toasted onion and pine on the one hand, and a deep, almost harsh, hayish, wormwood- and even tonic water-like bitterness, putting a complete halt to any of the subdued malt sweetness trying to get through. In all, very appetizing, fresh and satisfying, yet explicitly bittering IPA, very enjoyable and worthy of both breweries’ reputations.

Sampled from tap at ’Beertemple’. Clear, golden amber with an off-white head. Sweetish, fruity and slightly cheesy aroma of mango, orange, some honey and hints of pine. Sweetish, fruity and again slightly cheesy aroma of mango, orange, honey and some pine, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly resiny finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!

The beer is ready to go in the yellow color. The foam is white with medium bubbles. The foam disappears leisurely quickly and leave fine traces. The scent is fresh humlig. Aromas of citrus, grapefruit, lime. Smells also some grain and grass with little flowers. The taste has great hops, dry and bitter. The hops plays the main role here and it shows. The flavors of grapefruit, lemon, orange, green bananas, unripe berries. A hop bomb sitting in a while with subsequent bitterness. Easy to rich body. Medium carbonation. Dry and bitter.
