English: Amager Rye Porter is the result of fruitful cooperation between the best of Danish and American brewing cultures. It’s base is made of hard roasted malts and 16% rye. It adds a fantastic sweetness, and a titillating spicy edge, which, combined with a subtle and balanced acidity, is reminiscent of rye bread. This is not a beer for the weak, we’re pleased with the outcome and hope you will be too

Deep darkest brown pour with small ruby highlights and fizzy beige head. Sweet aromas of treacle and licorice, with a little port wine, vanilla, leather and alcohol. Lots of dark chocolate in the taste, licorice, treacle, coffee, with light vinous notes too. Bitter and spicy hop/rye mid-palate, dry and roasty finish. Light-med bodied and smooth as silk. Excellent.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. An inky black beer pours with a thin tan head. It has a very rich liquorice and chocolate flavour, orange marmalade and vanilla notes followed by creamy vanilla and blackcurrant on the finish. Excellent!

On tap (for a short time I presume) at Roundhouse in Hong Kong. Excellent beer all around. Tasted it a while ago so can’t give specific notes but one of my favourite. Strong bitterness. Pours beautifully. Will write more next time I try it!

Bottle (500 ml) as Amager Rye Porter. Split 3-ways with JulienHuxley and Minderbinder.

Appearance: Dark brown with a medium easy to revive beige head and little lacing.

Aroma: Molasses, perfumy notes, rye spiciness, peppery notes and light fruitiness( berries).

Taste: Molasses, peppery notes, rye spiciness, perfume notes, light berries and liquorice.

Palate: Medium body. Moderate carbonation. A bit silky. Peppery finish.

Overall: Too perfumy, which has probably something to do with the rye because this is the exact same impression I have with Goose Island Cherry Rye and Backyyard Rye. Lack a bit of balance. Other than that, it’s tasty and enjoyable.
