4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draught at 2013 North American Organic Brewers Festival. Light amber color. Aroma of cherry and funky sourness. Great taste of sour cherry pie filling over a really robust farmhouse malt profile. Finishes with a sweet sourness.
Bottle pour at the brewery in Hillsboro, OR. Hazy golden brown with little head. Muted aroma with bourbon and cherries and other fruits. Flavor is bourbon and fruity, some sweetness and not particularly hoppy. A nice sipping Belgian inspired beer. Easy to drink over a fun chat with the proprietor. neepsntatties (1988) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 29, 2013
On tap at NAOBF. Colour...cloudy amber with a thin white head. Nose...cherry tart, cherry compote and yeast. Palate.. Tart, slightly dry, with dry earth, tangy pie cherry and sappy oak. The cherries are ever present and there’s a bitterness that clings to the palate. The finish is quite tangy and seems reminiscent of Smarties. Nice stuff on a hot June day! 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAY 1, 2011
Bottle:   Rating from the last part of the bottle.   Was somewhat Golden to begin, but now the bottom is a dirty murky caramel, large rocky white head, nice lacing.   Bright farmhouse like nose, touch of floral, a litle pixie stix type sweetness.   Sweet malty start, bright, well carbonated.   Has a bit of bright barnishness.   Smooth, not alcoholic but warming, has a fruitiness to it, not overly bready.   The start of this beer I was a little ho-hum, but the back end with the dregs is more interesting.   Its not as sharp as a true Belgian Golden, but it makes up for it in its fruitiness.   This is one of those beers that are a little hard to decypher, so you keep going back for more.   Body and mouthfeel are full to moderate.   Finishes with a very nice fruity barnishness.   I didnt like this one much at first, thought it was ho-hum, but it ended up rather nicely.   A good interpretation of a Belgian Golden.   Not as bready, nor as alcoholic, with some enjoyable fruitiness.   Good stuff!
