Opaque brown-black with a small light brown head. Roasty and char malt aroma with high medicinal notes. Roast malt flavor dominates, with some earthen tones and a muted chalky chocolate. Lingering roasty bitterness in the finish with returning ashen component. Medium mouthfeel with some oat silkiness.
Poured from the bottle purchased in North Bend, WA into a small glass to drink. The beer had a smooth dark brown-black color with a very large creamy dark tan head with great retention, and very good cling and lacing. Its aroma featured a roasty malt blend with notes of chocolate, coffee, and a strong oatmeal presence, along with light earthy hops. The taste was fairly sweet and rich with notes of chocolate, caramel, oatmeal and just a touch of cereal and bitterness. Completely dark with a thick brown foam. Aromas of bitter chocolate. Thick and smooth mouthfeel with coffee bitterness, vanilla, and espresso flavor. A significant stout to be sure.
