2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
as it was served on a newcastle brown ale coaster, i couldn’t help but notice that it was the exact same color as that warm margarine yellow trim on the newcastle label. i always transfer my pint serving into a wine glass-- it brings out both the head and the aroma. here, my glassware acrobatics excited a nice head the color of natural wool. it smells like a freshly opened pack of pillsbury orange danish dough, with perhaps a minty note as well. this is a mild and unassuming pale-- a borderline "snoozer"-- with pleasing orange and peach hop tones in a reasonable if unexciting dossage. typical carb, with light to barely medium feel. there are a thousand pales like this out there, so why should i concoct more effort toward nuanced rating verbiage than the brewer put toward nuanced brewing? and the name "winter bliss" for an ordinary pale ale is as perplexing as the decline of the anasazis.
