September 14, 2013 - Zwanze Day at Bar Volo - on draught. Hazy gold with a huge and lasting fluffy white head. Aroma is incredibly dry ("nose hair-curlingly dry!") - alcohol and hot lemon zest ("lemons left on the radiator") - spicy and peppery, with light dry oak - wild stuff. Taste - beautiful really - the aroma was all over the map, but that taste - lovely; light lemon, pear, light oak and spice, hint of lacto - no alcohol. Thick, a tad still, finishes quick and dry/sour - swear there’s green brett in here, but supposedly no; barrel bugs?

[5791-20130914] Tap. Lemon biscuit aroma. Slightly hazy, orange body with a quick foamy white head. Soured barrel of fruit flavour has a nice oaked sour aftertaste. Medium body. Good. (7/3/8/3/16) 3.7

neongolden (1857) - Linköping, Sweden/Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 10, 2014
(On tap at Bryden’s, June 15 2014) Pours a clear pale gold with a large, bubbly white head and lots of lace. Aroma pretty complex and changes as it warms, white wine grapes, lemon/lime, slightly oaky, wheat grain, a slight lactic note. On the palate, slight lactic acidity keeps it zesty to start but not very sour. More chardonnay - grape meets lemon-lime, a little herbal coriander. More traditional wit profile towards the finish, wheat grains and a bit of the curaçao more apparent, light herb persists, barrel in the finish is present but not overpowering. A very dry beer all told, fairly light body, effervescent carb, drinks well. This is a pretty subtle beer, but there’s a lot going on and it’s all held in excellent balance.

On tap at Volo. Clear pale yellow with a white head. Hints of hazelnuts with vanilla wafer cookies, some chardonnay and wheat. Have to say this one was pretty unique with high carbonation and moderate body, hint of sweetness but very dry, biscuity and very interesting.

Spab (4124) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 23, 2014
On tap at Volo. Pours a lightly cloudy golden yellow with modest-sized white head. Aroma is quite fruity with lots of apple and sourness. Flavour has apple skin, earthiness and a distinct sourness. Fine somewhat gentle carbonation. Good.

a little sour and barrel aged and some lacto. Good drinkability, at Bar Volo.

sudomorph (1192) - Barrie, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 30, 2013
On draft at Amsterdam Brewhouse. Pours a translucent orange/yellow with a two-finger, bubbly white head that thins out quickly. Aroma has notes of orange, spices, yeast funk, and wine from the barreling. Taste is a bit sour with hints of citrus orange and farmhouse funk. Low-medium body with a medium-high carbonation. Crisp and refreshing in the mouth with an effervescent carbonation Overall good but the sour isn’t my thing. Refreshing and drinkable with a good amount of flavour from the barrels. Wouldn’t order again but again, sour isn’t really my thing.

2013-09-14. Hazy golden yellow body with a small foamy white head. 3++ Aroma of fruit, white wine vinous character, light oak. 7+ Flavour is similar, fruity white wine character, woody oak notes up front fade and then re-emerge in the finish. Average plus to medium bodied palate, soft carbonation. Pretty nice, refreshing, fairly subtle, though the Chardonnay comes through relatively strongly. Enjoyable, one of my favorites of the day. On tap at Volo Funk Night 2013, Toronto

Really nice. Great fruity finish. Pours cloudy orange without much head or lacing. Finishes with some kind of tangy fruit mixed with florals. Maybe the curacao. Makes for a great twist at the end. Some coriander as well. Barrel very subtle and well-integrated. On draft at Volo for Zwanze Day.
